Prior to the Pandemic, one of the programs that BizWorks

was most proud of was our Start Smart Program which engages startup, Micro, and Small Businesses with subject matter experts to create the sustainable business models they deserve. We have helped many businesses as they look for resources to help them

navigate their path to success.

We have now partnered with Wells Fargo Bank to add a special twist to our program as we have created the program geared to the Hispanic/Latino Business Communities! Using Centers of Influence in this diverse community we were able to create a program that is impactful and culturally respectful. The program will be conducted almost entirely in Spanish and our Facilitators will be able to share valuable information in a setting that promotes inclusion.

The program culminates in a “Pitch Competition” with the winner receiving $2,000 thanks to a generous contribution from our Partner, Kelly Suazo-Davis of Anchor In Leadership!

She and the Team have provided valuable input and talent and we are looking forward to the program and hope to use this as an opportunity to seek more opportunities to work with this growing community.

The program will be held on Tuesday evenings from

 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting January 31^st.

Million Cups

There are many fantastic organizations serving the business community with valuable resources. One of the best in our region is the Million Cups Program Every week.

Entrepreneurs present business ideas to the local community and learn how those around them can support their business in its growth. As part of a nationwide organization of 122 communities with over 22,000 entrepreneurs, the Richmond group meets every Wednesday at the Robbins School of Business at the University of Richmond. The Richmond organization, led by Dale Fickett, a co-founder of RVA Works, the programs, is supported by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which promotes peer learning and

professional connections.

This morning we were honored to hear from Scott Blackwell, Chief Community Officer at the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond. Scott is well known community and philanthropy and the Community Foundation which manages over 1,200 charitable funds with assets exceeding $1 billion. Scott shared his very interesting story and spent time sharing the Foundation’s commitment to underserved communities as well as small businesses. We are proud to have an organization like the Community Foundation and look forward to hearing more from this dynamic organization.

We are also excited to have a relationship with Dale and Million Cups and will be working to have him share what his organizations are doing for businesses. Look for more information regarding a Million Cups, RVA Works, BizWorks combination!

Anchor In Gets “Booked”!

As BizWorks continues to look for opportunities to help better serve our region’s diverse business community, we are fortunate to connect with an outstanding business “Champion”, Kelly Suazo-Davis, Owner of Anchor In Leadership which takes business leadership skills to the next level. They analyze and evaluate the organizational effectiveness of leadership reporting, retention, time management, and process and procedures of managing talent. Kelly is very active in the business community and participates in several important organizations.

We are blessed to have Kelly contribute her time, talent and treasure to help us launch Start Smart En Espanol where she will Facilitate a session and contribute to the Pitch Competition Prize as well as sharing valuable information regarding the Hispanic/Latino community.

Kelly stopped by BizWorks to help with our Hispanic Outreach Programs, so we took this opportunity to “Book” her!
