Running Is Wisdom

Devotional

There is a moment in Joseph's story that is easy to overlook. When Potiphar's wife grabbed his coat

and pressed him to give in, Joseph did not stand there and try to argue his way through it. He did not test his willpower or convince himself he could handle the situation. He ran. He literally left his coat in her hand and got out of there. For a lot of us, running feels like weakness. We think the stronger move is to stand our ground, face the temptation head-on, and prove we can resist it. But that kind of thinking has led a lot of good people into a lot of painful situations. Temptation is not a test of how strong you are. It is an invitation to make a choice, and the wisest choice is often to remove yourself from the situation entirely. Think about the areas in your own life where you keep trying to manage temptation instead of creating distance from it. Maybe it is a relationship, a habit, a website, or a place. Whatever it is, staying close to it and hoping for the best is not a strategy. It is a risk. Joseph's example gives us permission to stop pretending we can handle everything on our own. Wisdom knows when to walk away, and sometimes walking away quickly is the most courageous thing you can do.

Bible Verse

"Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love,

and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." - 2 Timothy 2:22 (NLT)

Reflection Question

Is there something in your life right now that you have been trying to manage or resist in your own strength, when the wiser move would be to create real distance from it?

Prayer

Father, give me the humility to recognize when I need to run rather than stand my ground. Grant me

the courage to make the hard choices that protect my character and honor You. Amen.
