While Labor Day marks the passing of yet another summer season, there is still a bounty of local and fresh summer veggies at EFM. Try this recipe from The Food Network made with sweet corn, red and green bell peppers, red onion and cilantro. You'll savor the flavor of summer in this easy-to-make salad.

Plenty of Heirlooms & Salad Fixins'
It’s almost time for fall vegetables ...but first it’s time to enjoy more tomatoes! Plenty of big heirloom tomatoes and a small harvest of red cherry tomatoes will be available at Cabbage Throw Farm. They’ll have all the fixings to make a summer salad including cucumbers, carrots, spring mix, arugula, fennel and radishes along with cooking greens, lettuce, romaine and herbs. #saladseason

Here's a new way to enjoy tomatoes:
Crustless Tomato Pie from Biscuits & Burlap
  • 4 tomatoes 
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 Tablespoon fresh oregano chopped
  • 6-7 leaves basil chopped
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded, plus extra for sprinkling over top
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • Slice tomatoes and lay sliced on plates. Sprinkle lightly with salt and let sit 20 minutes. 
  • Melt butter in small skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic and saute' until onions are soft (about 8 minutes). Transfer to a medium-sized bowl.
  • Add cheese, eggs, herbs, and pepper to bowl. Stir to combine. 
  • Drain water off of plates with tomatoes, With a paper towel, Gently blot tomatoes to soak up excess moisture.
  • Arrange tomatoes in a single layer on a greased pie pan. Top with about 1/4 cup of the cheese mixture. Repeat until all ingredients have been used, finishing with a layer of tomatoes. Top this layer with a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.  
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.

Phillips Farms has Honeycrisp Apples! This all-time favorite apple is extra crunchy and juicy, and customers just can’t get enough of them. 
Asian Pears will also be making their debut this week. These pears have a crunchy texture and beautiful white flesh. They are very juicy and have an amazing sweet flavor. Unlike regular pears, Asian Pears stay hard and crunchy when they are ripe. They are often referred to as “Apple Pears.”

Other items available at Phillips Farms this weekend: Gala Apples, Gingergold Apples and Zestar Apples; peaches, nectarines, raspberries, blackberries, cantaloupe and watermelon; Kirby cucumbers, garlic, garlic scapes, fresh basil, Sun Gold cherry tomatoes and hot peppers.

Yellow and white freestone peaches and nectarines are plump and plentiful. Look for a plethora of plums and Pluots too.

More apple varieties are arriving every week so get the season's first Galas, Honeycrisp, MacIntosh and Zestars. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and canary melons continue to grace the stand at Scholl's along with juicy tomatoes and plenty of veggies.

Inside Salvaterra's tent, there is plenty to choose grown by this market favorite. Greens, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, fennel, scallions, zucchini, spaghetti and butternut squashes and lots more.

It's the end of summer and the first hint of fall is in the air. There's one flower that really shines this time of year - Zinnias! Jen grows about 10 different varieties of zinnia, and most of her pre-made bouquets feature this flower. Or you can pick your own colors in a custom arrangement. This week Doughnut Love will be debuting a new flavor—Turtle! A double chocolate doughnut with salted caramel drizzle & toasted pecans!

They will also have Lemon Blueberry doughnuts one last time to celebrate the end of summer (a limited number of GF will be available). And to bring in fall, vegan Apple Cider doughnuts along with their signature doughnut cookies.

He's jumping back into the Music Tent this week!  Doug Hawk's mellow sound was music to the ears of our vendors and dedicated volunteers at EFM in July, so we're bringing him back one more time this season for everyone's listening pleasure. Come sit under the trees in the North Lawn of the Circle and listen to Doug on keyboard as he plays h is special style of intelligent, inspiring and grooving music. From 10 am to 12 noon.
What's Happening in Downtown Easton
Shopping FAM Tour
Easton Main Street's shopping FAM(iliarity) Tour happens at 11 am this Saturday. The free, 45-minute guided walking tour will give you a first look at the new stores and restaurants in Downtown Easton. Plus, the first 10 participants will receive an Easton Farmers’ Market shopping bag. Meet in Centre Square at 11 am and look for the FAM Tour paddle.
