Memorial Day is less than a few weeks away and marks the  unofficial start  of summer. On a serious note; that should not be forgotten; to honor those who have died in service to our country.

We have another very interesting newsletter… full of food and destination ideas and always with a hint of humor! We’ve done a lot in the past two weeks!
Memorial Day Weekend...

Travel Is The Most Valuable Education… Life-changing experiences in Vermont and nearby New York are easily found even for the most adventurous globe-trotting traveler. Fort Ticonderoga is 45 minutes from Pond Mountain Inn!
A full line-up of activities and programs offered throughout the weekend include daily tours in the fort, King’s Garden, and museum exhibition spaces; historic trades programs; ongoing soldiers’ life programs; weapons demonstrations; the Mount Defiance experience; and the Battlefield hiking trail.

Hildene... The Lincoln Family Home
Kay and I often visit Hildene; Robert Todd Lincoln built this Georgian Revival mansion in 1905. The estate sits on 412 beautiful acres that overlooks both the Green Mountain and Taconic Mountain Ranges from just behind the home. The formal gardens are a must see along with the 1903 Pullman Palace Car Sunbeam. Always a highlight when visiting and delightful way to spend a few hours in Manchester.
The 25 Most Important Cheeses in America... according to a recent Bon Appétit article include 6 local Vermont Farms & Creameries.

Travel the Vermont Cheese Trail for Tours & Tastings – 7 within easy driving distance of the inn. Contact us and we'll send you the complete Map & Tour Guide.... And, we'll include our favorites!
Wait Until You Read This!

We visited Dancing Ewe Farm and met the incredibly gracious owners after hearing so many wonderful things about this farm-to-table dining experience. Quite simply… this is the most interesting place for Saturday Night Dinner and Sunday Brunch we’ve come across in quite some time – Extraordinary!

Luisa & Jody do it all… preserving the art of Tuscan style cheese making, they produce all kinds of specially-prepared cured meats and handcrafted olive oil. Raw milk from their sheep for the cheeses, we saw loaves of fresh baked bread, fresh pasta, more cured meats and sausages that we’ve never seen before and they even import Italian wine… Well Done!

We Didn't Do This In New Jersey!

Black Angus from our neighbor’s property… those that we shared our hamburger with said, “it was the best hamburger they’re ever had!” Join us for a Memorial Day Weekend Cookout and see for yourself!

Also, we just picked-up two Heritage Breed pigs that we raise with our neighbor and 10-12 Meat Birds (chickens) that we’re also raising (“we” being the operative word). The pigs get the entire inn’s table scrapes – nothing goes to waste!

Last… our other neighbors down-the-road are raising Quail… we’re making deviled quail eggs in the next few days!!  Stayed tuned!!
Cafe Sora Mother's Day Brunch at the Southern Vermont Art Center (SVAC ) wasn't complete until we viewed the current exhibition... Art From The Schools; featuring aspiring artists from our local schools. Click on the photo above to learn more about upcoming exhibitions and events.
One of fourteen "Soup Can Paintings" inspired by the work of Andy Warhol... Painted by the 7th Grade Class at Maple Street School. All found in Gallery IV at the Southern Vermont Art Center (SVAC). Exhibition continues through May 28.
The Night Sky is magnificent for Star Gazing. It’s amazing what can be seen from the property! You won’t see the Pillars of Creation above, but read about what we get to see most nights! And... the left "pillar" is approximately four light years tall!!

Our Favorite Spring Vegetable? Asparagus. Well… not for me! The flip side is that I love Kay’s Asparagus Soup! It’s absolutely delicious; easy to make and somehow I’ve lost seven pounds having this for lunch every day, even with the homemade crème fraîch!
2018 Pond Mountain Inn Photo Contest
We're still putting the finishing touches on our "Photo Contest", but don't let that stop you from taking great photographs during your stay with us! We'll finalize & present "the contest" details in our next newsletter – Promise!
