February is such a cool month. It is right in the middle of winter and it gets a bit chilly, but it's also the month when love shines through because
of Valentine's Day. How do you show your pet the love? This month is also a great time for pets to show off their pearly whites because it's Pet Dental Month. We'll also discuss TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), a program that helps community feral cat colonies and how you can help. All the information is right here in this month's Pet Tips and Treats newsletter, which is filled with valuable information. Remember to watch for our periodic special discount "treat" just for you and your pet to enjoy. Don't forget to share the love and send our newsletter to others who also cherish their pets

February 2017

February is the month of love, mostly because Valentine's Day is placed right in the middle of the shortest month of the year. February shows the love to animals with so many days to celebrate. So let's show the love.

-Dog Training Education Month
-Spay/Neuter Awareness Month
(Humane Society of the United States)
-Pet Dental Health Month
-Feb. 20, Love Your Pet Day
-Feb. 28, World Spay Day.
Annual campaign by the Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the United States; held the last Tuesday of February.
Count the Ways You Love Your Pet in February and Beyond
We love our pets; it pretty much goes without saying. And they love us back. Our loyal dogs are so dutiful. They protect our homes by barking at intruders, they greet us at the door after a long day of work, and they snuggle up with us during a home movie. Our devoted cats seem to listen to us when we have no one else around, and they love to cuddle up and purr in our laps.
But how do we show them the love?

February is Pet Dental Month: Keep Your Pet's Pearly Whites in Tip-Top Shape

Just as the health of your teeth are important, so is the dental health of your pet. When you disregard their dental health, serious issues can arise, just as in humans. Since February is Pet Dental Month, there's no better time than to have your pet's pearly whites checked by your veterinarian.

Do You Know TNR? Trap-Neuter-Return Helps the Lives of Feral Cats

If you don't know about TNR - Trap-Neuter-Return - it's time to find out about the program that is helping feral cats nationally.
"Trap-Neuter-Return is the humane and effective approach for stray and feral cats," according to " Why Trap-Neuter-Return Feral Cats? The Case for TNR," an article by Alley Cat Allies, a nonprofit that helps to effect positive change for cats. The program has been in practice in the US for decades after it was proved to work in Europe. The article said that, according to scientific studies, TNR " improves the lives of feral cats, improves their relationships with the people who live near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time."

Employee Spotlight:
Hilary Anzaldo, guest service attendant
From practicing nurse to Guest Service Attendant at Second Home Pet Resort, Hilary Anzaldo made the switch in careers after moving to Arizona 10 months ago. "It's my first job working with animals, but I always wanted to work with animals," Hilary said.
In her role as Guest Service Attendant, Hilary mainly works with dogs. She takes them out for potty breaks and playtime and assists with feeding times and working in doggy day care, overseeing interactions with the dogs. She also participates in cuddle sessions, spending time in the cuddle room snuggling up with the dogs.
Hilary has been with Second Home for 8 months and enjoys meeting the dogs and experiencing their different personalities. "It's not like going to work," she said. "It is work, but it's a fun experience and more satisfying when you work with dogs."
Ensuring pet parents about their dog's stay is important. Hilary ensures that all pet parents know their pets are cared for as if they are family. "At Second Home we'll go above and beyond to make a pet's stay comfortable," she said.
"You can have a bad day outside of work or things are not going well, but when you go to work, and a dog's tail starts wagging and they are excited to see you, it just feels really good," Hilary said.
