Change—make sure you grab the opportunity to make it for the better.

This weekend, my wife and I moved both of our daughters into their respective colleges. It’s not the first time we have moved one of our children to a college residence, but it is the first time that we are moving our youngest. We might be a little sad about this, but this is a great opportunity for them on their journey to independence. My wife and I will be testing out life as empty nesters for the first time in 22 years, which also means we can focus on other, new opportunities.

This season also makes me think of the changes we are going through as a company.

We now have a Long-Range Plan that guides us toward change and improvement for Lewis as an enterprise over several years versus a shorter horizon.

In our Washington Education Market, most of our “good fit” project pursuits are now Progressive Design-Build, giving our teams the opportunity to integrate with our design partners and increase high collaboration across our whole project team. This is a great new opportunity in our business for us to leverage.

Always look for the opportunity to leverage change for the best in your realm!

Life at Lewis

Robert Scheurman Promotion

Congratulations to Robert Scheurman on his promotion to Project Manager! Rob interned with Lewis at the Boeing campus before joining as a Project Engineer on the Corporate team. He's worked with countless impactful clients, from our work with Apple to Indeed and most recently on the Candlebox and Wildstar projects at the Meta Redmond campus. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!

Meta Open House

On Thursday, the Meta Breakaway team hosted an open house to celebrate the start of Lewis’ largest and most complex clean room yet. The team presented the innovative ways we are making this project possible, from detailed mapping of owner-supplied tools, to 4-d scheduling, to intensive VDC modeling (down to 3/4 in) and use of AR and VR, to the ultra-intensive clean room protocols, to the co-location the entire team has agreed to. Kudos to this team for the exceptional service they provide to Meta!

Multi-Cultural Club Meeting

On Tuesday, September 13th, the Seattle Multi-Cultural Club members had a fun-filled get-together with drinks, a special Cornhole tournament and amazing food catered from Mama Sambusa. A shout-out to Francisco Mendoza, Yair Buendia and Michael Sea who came in first, second and third respectively in the tournament. Congrats, winners!

Life Science Client Event on Lake Union

Last week, Lewis, McKinstry and ATS hosted the Seattle Children's team for a fun outing on a houseboat on Lake Union. The goal was to get everyone together to celebrate our continued partnership and success on our projects. The attendees included people from Seattle Children's, Spectrum Development, Andrew Clapham and Associates, Flad Architects, KPFF, Prime, ATS and McKinstry. A few Lewis employees even tried their hands at an electric hydrofoil. Thanks to everyone who planned and attended the event!

Oregon Client Mixer

Over the last month, the Oregon offices have hosted their Beer and Bites from Around the World client mixers. Clients were given passports at the door and would travel from table to table (each table featured beer and food from different countries), getting them stamped. After they collected a stamp from each table, their passports would be entered into a prize drawing. Lewis had a blast hosting these events in Portland and Eugene. It was a lot of work to coordinate and set up; huge thanks to everyone who helped make it a success. Many clients have reached out with their thanks and interest in next year's event.

Long-Range Plan Milestones

We launched our Long-Range Plan over six months ago and have already made some serious progress! Some highlights include successfully launching and processing the Gallup Employee Engagement survey, meeting our 2022 goal of adding 20 new MWDESB Subs to our pre-qualified list and creating a guide and checklist for considering profit-generating ideas for our project pursuits. These are just a few of the accomplishments so far. Take a look at the Longe-Range Plan progress tracking on LewisLink to learn more about our shared goals and progress.

In the Field

NTT Project update

The NTT jobsite is buzzing! Currently, this project has over 25 Lewis staff assigned to this project. NTT is an expansive data center storage facility being built in Hillsboro, Oregon. Our team is in various stages of construction on the six vaults within the HI1 building (previously a solar panel manufacturing facility). The team is finishing up punch list items on one end of the building and in the early stages of retrofitting the space on the other end. The HI1 building is an $80 million project and will produce 36 MW of capacity. It is on schedule to finish in the Spring of 2023. Lewis has been awarded two additional buildings (HI2 and HI3) on the same property. These two buildings total $200 million and will provide 66MW of capacity. The work is starting soon, with demolition work scheduled for October. HI2 and HI3 are scheduled to finish in the summer of 2025.
