It’s good to reflect on how this concept applies to everything we want to accomplish here at Lease Crutcher Lewis. Genuinely caring for those around you is integral to how our leaders lead, how we treat our peers and team members, how we interact with our trade partners and how our clients view us. 


We can deliver a successful project by all accounts—schedule, budget, quality—but if our client doesn’t feel good about their experience with us, we won’t get hired again. The opposite also holds true. If we deliver a successful project and they feel good about us, we’ll get hired again every time.

 

Jim Crutcher is someone who truly embodies this concept. He is widely known and highly respected in the community. If you mention his name, everyone seems to know him and will speak very highly of him. My first-hand experience is that Jim always makes me feel like I’m the only person in the room—he remembers our last conversation, listens to what I’m saying and offers up some encouragement. I can’t tell you exactly what he said or what he did, but I can tell you that he always makes me feel good.


I encourage you to think about how you can make your peers, clients and subcontractors feel like they are the only people in the room, too.

Keith Cox Has Been Promoted!

Please join us in congratulating Keith Cox for his promotion to Senior Project Engineer! In his four years here, Keith has been a valuable addition to his project teams. He recently completed the Rainier Square Tower and is currently on the 701 Dexter team. Be sure to congratulate Keith when you see him!

Chad Baron Has Been Promoted! 

We are excited to announce Chad Baron’s promotion to Assistant Superintendent! Chad has presented outstanding demonstrative leadership on challenging and complex projects, including the Windward, New Road Ahead (OHS) and multiple Clackamas Community College projects. He has developed meaningful relationships with our clients, and his reputation adds to our ability to win future work. Congratulations Chad!

PE Spring Gathering 

Last week Portland held its Spring PE Gathering. This event was the first large-scale in-person PE gathering in over two years and it was inspiring to see everyone together again, both new and old. The PEs toured the North Valley Jobsite together, where the project team shared some of the unique project challenges and lessons learned. After the tour, Bart Ricketts and members of the Portland Leadership Team joined the group to share a presentation on the Long-Range Plan. The event wrapped with a visit to nearby Vanguard Brewery for some well-deserved beverages and lively conversation. Big thanks to the North Valley team for hosting.

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and we want to make sure everyone at Lewis knows about what mental health resources are available. More than one in five of the world's adults struggle with mental health, but everyone is deserving of mental health support. We encourage you to access the Headspace app to help you ground yourself and practice self-compassion. Additionally, you have access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP includes three face-to-face sessions a year with a behavioral counselor available to you and your household members. Please click here to learn more about these resources.

Crane Erection at Washington 1000

The project team at Washington 1000 has officially started construction! Last weekend, the team erected the onsite tower crane, beginning at 3 a.m. on Saturday and completing around 3 p.m. on Sunday. Not your average project, the 16-story office tower is situated on a podium previously completed as part of the WSCC Addition.

Boring at 701 Dexter 

The project team at 701 Dexter completed boring for the project's ultra-sustainable Energy District, which will recover the heat generated by City sewer lines and distribute it to four buildings in the area (including 701 Dexter). The team precisely bored several feet below grade, from the Southeast corner of the site, under Boren Avenue, to the vacant lot across the street.

Recipe for Sustainability at One Esterra

The all-electric kitchen at Microsoft's One Esterra was featured in Geekwire this week! The multi-station, 13,000-square-foot restaurant is the first all-electric kitchen on the Microsoft campus and even features an electric wok. Click here to read more about the exciting project!

Pursuits and Wins

University of Oregon Heritage Renovation

Last Tuesday, we submitted a proposal for the UO Heritage Renovation. The scope of work includes the complete renovation and restoration of the West Coast's oldest surviving academic buildings—University Hall and Villard Hall. This work will create sustainable, innovative and flexible department teaching and classroom spaces for mathematics, theater and film studies. The $50M project is currently targeting a construction start date of July 2023. Good luck, team!
