Each morning, I look forward to work because of the people I get to see at Lewis.

We’re growing, and there are a lot of new people joining Lewis. It’s important for us to greet them, share some of our stories, answer questions and help them succeed—to connect. The first few months can form how new people see Lewis and help them understand their role. They can build success, self-esteem and happiness.

This is also a valuable time to learn from them. Every new hire brings a fresh perspective and new experiences to Lewis. Their questions and ideas are as important as their hopes and dreams.

Consider taking a moment out of your day to talk with a co-worker you don’t know yet. Share a cup of coffee or a casual moment.

Life at Lewis

Joe Bosler Promotion

Congratulations to Joe Bosler on his promotion to Foreman! Joe has been with Lewis since 2020 and has helped complete the Capitol Hill TOD, then went to the Garco scope at the WSCC and is currently supporting the UW Bothell/Cascadia team at STEM4. Please join us in celebrating Joe!

Faith Johnson Promotion

Please join us in congratulating Faith Johnson on her promotion to Project Manager! Faith started at Lewis as an intern before returning to join us full-time after college. She has played an integral role on our Life Science team, working on the SeaGen campus for several years before transitioning to Seattle Children's. Congratulations Faith!

New Hire Orientation

Last week Oregon hosted their group new hire orientation, marking the first new hire orientation since the start of the pandemic. The Portland Leadership Team and Bart Ricketts welcomed the new/newish faces to Lewis and delved into Lewis' history and culture, giving our most recent Oregon new hires an opportunity to meet each other and learn more about what makes Lewis an incredible place to work.

DJC TopProjects

Lewis took home multiple awards at the 2022 Oregon DJC TopProjects event last Wednesday! We entered four projects for consideration. We took second place in Arts, Culture and Entertainment with the Polar Passage Zoo project. In the Primary Education category, Lewis was awarded third for the Adrienne Nelson High School project. We also took third in the Recreation category with the Oregon State University Gymnastics project. Way to go, Lewis! Big thanks to all who took the time to help develop the projects, as well as the applications for these award-worthy projects.

In the Field

Chapter Building 1 Breaks Ground

The Chapter Building I team has officially broken ground and is underway excavating the site. The team received their shoring and excavation permit earlier this month and mobilized MidMountain to break ground last week. Excavation will bench the site down for about two weeks, making way for shoring piles to start towards the end of this month. Congratulations to the project team on this milestone achievement!

Up Close and Technical - North Valley Complex

Take a look at this highly technical piece of work taking place at the North Valley Complex project in Wilsonville, Oregon. Here, in our reconstructed roof bay inside the existing building, our structural steel contractor, Timberland Inc, is shown hoisting a 50-foot-long W40x167 steel beam into place to replace an open web girder. The new girders and related framing are needed to support the new concrete deck that will house six large lab exhaust fans and associated equipment. The team had to use this specialized Tri-Lifter because each girder was 12,000 pounds with all of the bent plate, post supports, ledger angles, etc., attached in the final configuration.

Crane Erection at 701Dexter

The 701 Dexter crew celebrated another project milestone last week: the erection of their onsite tower crane! As is tradition for this team, they hosted a small celebratory BBQ onsite thanks to grillmaster Chilly Hilliker, complete with hot dogs and a great view of the project.
