Good Morning,
Two weeks from tomorrow is Election Day. Election season is in high gear with both sides of every issue on the ballot telling us why we should vote their way and the terrible things that will happen to us if we don’t.
Our homework as informed voters desiring to make good decisions is as follows:
- Read the ballot language in its entirety ahead of time.
- Do an internet search and find the full text of the specific issue. Follow its links. Many times it will refer to specific sections of existing law. What do these links really say?
- Ask yourself, do any of these ads truly say what you have just read or have they “stretched the truth” to make a point?
- Follow the money. Learn who is funding the effort on either side. What do they have to gain? Is their desired outcome in their best interest or yours?
An informed electorate is the worst thing that can happen to those who put their personal interest above that of the people. This voting cycle, be that informed voter and, yes, vote.
