Doing Good With Greater Good
Kitsap Humane Society is starting off 2024 with a terrific partnership that will greatly enhance how we serve as a safety net for the community.
Greater Good Charities' GOODS Program sources and manages excess, rebranded, and short-dated food and supplies from manufacturers, distributers, and retailers and makes those products available to nonprofits like KHS. It's similar to a food bank model in that the goods are donated, but freight, warehouse, and programs costs are met by handling fees and donations, which ends up to be mere pennies on the dollar.
| |
This means that - as a GOODS Ambassador - KHS will be able to stock its Pet Food Pantry and provide needed supplies to families who need them without relying solely on donations from the public. It also means that we'll be able to help other area nonprofits fulfill the needs of the people who rely on them.
You'll be able to read more about the GOODS Program in the future,
but for now, we can say that - with the help of Bremerton Food Line - we received our first shipment of 27,000 lbs. of pet food and were able to distribute product to several partners, including PAWS of Lynnwood and Central Kitsap Food Bank.
It's going to be a bright 2024!

January Puppuccino Pals Sponsor - Johnny Coffee!
Thank you to our January Puppuccino Pals Sponsor, Johnny Coffee!
This local, family owned business is new to the area and located at The Trails in Silverdale, right next door to their sister eatery, Waffle Stop. They bring to Kitsap a modern coffee shop with an old soul – simple food and drink in a beautiful space, where people can relax, create, or converse. For their baristas, it’s all about the craft of coffee and it’s a labor of love.
Of course, they’re pet-lovers as well. Growing up, the owners supported their local humane society by adopting old dogs and giving them a comfortable home and lots of love in the senior years. They’ve been great supporters of KHS from the moment they came to town and we’re proud to partner with them.
Stop by Johnny Coffee, grab a cup, and tell them “thank you” for us!
And if you'd like to be a Puppuccino (or Purr-uccino) Pals sponsor, please email kfleischmann@kitsap-humane.org.

G'day Mate!
Baco is a super sweet two-year-old Australian Shepherd, ready to bring a whole lot of love and energy into your life. If you're an active family looking for a furry friend to join your adventures, look no further! He's all about playtime, exercise, and mental stimulation. Whether it's a game of fetch, a long hike, or some puzzle toys to keep his clever brain engaged, count him in! He would love a big yard where he can freely run and play to no end! And he's really smart, having mastered sit, lay down, and shake, and he's eager to learn more.

Bonjour!
Meet Lafayette, a charming three-year-old male cat who's in search of a quiet, loving home! Lafayette is a very shy cat here at the shelter, and is in need of a home where he can truly come out of his shell and learn that the world isn't so scary. This dapper feline needs a patient and understanding adopter who can provide him with the quiet and secure environment he needs to flourish. Lafayette envisions a family with friends aged 12 and older who can appreciate his subtle grace and allow him the space and time to build trust. If you're ready to welcome a sweet soul into your life and offer Lafayette the chance to shine, he's eagerly awaiting the match to make his dreams of a home come true!

Thanks to all of our supporters like you, the end of 2023 was a huge success, with some of our favorite felines and Fidos finding homes. We fall in love with each and every one of these wonderful animals, but we're also happy to see them leave.
In December, with the help of our adoptions, foster, animal care, behavior, and veterinary teams, as well as those who advocate and care for them, 307 pets found loving homes including 102 cats, 54 dogs, 6 feathered friends, 5 guinea pigs, 96 kittens, 40 puppies, and 4 rabbits!
| |
Thank you to each and every person who helped this happen, from the staff who care for them, to those who donate to their care, and finally to our adopters who choose to open their hearts and homes.
If you've recently adopted a new family member from KHS, we'd love to hear more! Submit your KHS alum's Happy Tail for a chance to have them featured across our social media platforms!

Donor Spotlight
Thank You Bremerton Elks!
| |
For more than a century, the Bremerton Elks Lodge #1181 has been serving the Kitsap community through efforts like youth and veterans programs, disaster preparedness activities, and blood drives. But they're friends of the animals as well.
Last week, the Elks paid a visit to Kitsap Humane Society to drop off some 200 lbs. of supplies for the animals in our care and the community of pet-lovers who could use a hand. Thank you to Exalted Ruler Bob Finley, Tina Bale, and Glen Bale (who claimed he was "just the driver," but is actually the Chairman of the Board). We appreciate your efforts for the community!
