We're still tallying the final numbers, but we're confident in saying that 2025 was a huge success - and we have a lot of people to thank for it.
In all, more than 3,100 animals were sent to live in new loving homes. Over 1,400 were cared for by foster families. Our Veterinary Services team provided thousands upon thousands of animals with medical care. Our spay and neuter services increased by more than 30 percent over last year. We partnered with local and national organizations to expand our community safety net. And we won a few awards that we'll be ready to announce soon.
Yep... it's been a pretty great year and we want to thank the people who made it happen. To our incredibly dedicated and tireless volunteers, who gave a combined 43,355 hours of their valuable time to the animals in our care; to the more than 3,000 donors who made 7,274 individual contributions to our mission; to everyone who held a fundraiser in our name or attended one of our events; and to our amazingly hardworking staff, which goes above and beyond every single day - thank you to all!

We've had a great holiday season as well. This time of year is full of love and giving, and this year was no exception for KHS. Each time we ask, our community comes together to support animals in need throughout Kitsap County. Whether a shelter or foster animal, or a neighbor's beloved pet, the generosity we have witnessed this year has warmed our hearts and allowed us to continue our mission.

From the staff at Housing Kitsap (above) and owner of Bare Complexion, whose efforts brought in over 1,000 lbs of food and supplies to the inspiration brought on by little Miss Central Kitsap's collection drive at our annual Santa Paws event (left) - the community support has been overwhelming. And let's not forget that the B.I. Barkery is not only supporting our 2025 calendar sales, but also encouraging customers to donate year-round and bringing our shelter pets sweet treats throughout. To round out the year, Dutch Bros Coffee chose KHS as the beneficiary of their annual Local Giveback Day. And of course, there's the unending generosity of individuals that pours through our doors throughout the year. There are many hands that play a role in achieving the level of support we are able to provide to Kitsap - and we're grateful for them all.
We are continuously in awe of the support provided by our community partners. If you would like to organize your own supply drive or third-party fundraiser, learn more about connection opportunities on our website!

These Piggies Went Home - to Heartwood Haven!
“Two piglets are coming your way.”
A Good Samaritan in Poulsbo had seen two pigs running loose and caught them in a cat trap. At first, the pigs, named Womble and Rupert, were scared, but quickly adapted in our Big Animal Barn, playing in straw, getting scritches, and trying to eat people’s shoelaces. After no one stepped up to claim the piggies, we knew there was a better place for them.
Enter Heartwood Haven - a vegan animal sanctuary in Roy, Washington. Sitting on 45 acres of farmland, Heartwood Haven rescues animals from abuse and neglect, rehabilitates those animals, and finds them suitable forever homes when possible. If a new home is unable to be found, the animals get to stay. It’s a safe and happy home for roosters saved from cockfighting rings, farm animals seized in cruelty cases, and – in this case – piglets that just needed a place to thrive.
After being transported by KHS staff and introduced to their new digs by Heartwood co-founders Kate Tsyrklevich and Hope Hilman, Womble and Rupert immediately began exploring – sniffing all the sniffs, chomping on celery, and even making some new friends. Thank you to Kate and Hope and everyone who supports this amazing organization.
Please consider donating to their cause or supporting their online store.

The reasons animals come to Kitsap Humane Society vary for a variety of reasons. Maybe their owner is moving into a home that doesn't allow pets. Perhaps their own personal health has to take precedence. Or possibly, a Good Samaritan might bring them in as a stray with nowhere else to turn. No matter the circumstances, we're proud to be a part of the next steps in their journey. We were able to help thousands of animals find homes in 2024, including Meatball, the first of (hopefully) many pups who will find a home while being fostered at the Retsil Veteran's Home.
In December, with the help of our adoptions, foster, animal care, behavior, and veterinary teams, as well as those who advocate and care for them, 242 pets found loving homes including 64 cats, 31 dogs, 104 kittens, 30 puppies, 5 rabbits, 7 fowl, and Marshall the guinea pig!

Thank you to each and every person who helped animals find homes, from the staff who care for them, to those who donate to their care, and finally to our adopters who choose to open their hearts and homes.
If you've adopted a new family member from KHS, we'd love to hear more! Submit your KHS alum's Happy Tail for a chance to have them featured across our social media platforms!

Are You Our Next #PuppuccinoPals Sponsor?
In April 2016, Kitsap Humane Society was looking for ways to promote adoptable animals when a former team member and a current volunteer came up with the idea of #PuppuccinoPals.
#PuppuccinoPals is a weekly social media campaign created as a way to freshen adoption postings and highlight local businesses. Sponsorships allow great pups like Brad to go on additional outings and chances to get a break away from the shelter. As a PC sponsor, your business will be featured in a variety of locations, including weekly social media campaigns, monthly shelter newsletters, across our website, and in conjunction with other marketing opportunities.
