Original Story:

RSAE Sophomore Wins US House Rep Jim Clyburn Art Competition - Andria Wright, Sophomore and Design 3 student at Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence won first place in the US House of Representative Jim Clyburn’s Art Competition. She unveiled her winning work of art at the JC CATE Completer Ceremony on May 17, 2023. Her photo titled, Metazurial, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year along with all of the other Congressional Districts' winners.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. It is a great honor to have a winner of such a prestigious honor come from Jasper County. We are proud of Andria. We will encourage her to continue to use her skills to further her goals.
