Strong Communities for Life
Happy New Year from CHAI!
May we work together in 2021 to create strong communities
for the benefit of all residents.
CHAI Welcomes Will Pass
CHAI is excited to announce that Will Pass has joined our team as Chief Financial & Operating Officer. Will comes to CHAI with significant experience in finance, accounting and housing development, having worked in finance and operations at the Housing Authority in Baltimore, Rochester, Wilmington and Marin County, CA, in addition to his experience at nonprofit agencies including The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Will is originally from Park Heights and is thrilled to have the opportunity to dedicate his talents to our community.
New Initiatives to Support
Area Schools
For over 20 years, CHAI has been working to support the public schools of northwest Baltimore. Recognizing the specific struggles facing schools and families during the pandemic, CHAI is finding new and innovative ways to provide additional support. For example, CHAI initiated a quarterly “All Principals” meeting, convening principals (virtually) from the 10 public schools it serves to discuss the needs of students and their families, share best practices and explore opportunities for joint programming. In addition, CHAI is developing a “Teachers Are Heroes” project, an initiative providing opportunities for the community to show appreciation for teachers’ unwavering dedication and flexibility. “Teachers are Heroes” was launched with students and families posting words of gratitude on Facebook.
NNC Encourages Members
to Lead
CHAI’s Northwest Neighbors Connecting (NNC) is a village of individuals supporting each other to age in place while enhancing their physical, emotional and social well-being. In the new year, NNC is finding creative ways to deepen engagement. NNC has shifted popular programs like Diversity Dialogue, Healthy Cooking, and Book Club to an online format. With support from the Myerberg Center Tech-Knowledge Hub and one another, members are learning new technology to participate. The group has created several new classes including Dance Therapy, Personal Finance and a class on Cultural Diversity…all led by members themselves.
