Federal Relief:
Everything Hangs in the Balance
The unprecedented coronavirus eruption pushed Congress to take relief action, but the clock is ticking on many of those provisions. The effects on the economy and public health progress are key – but the stability of state and especially local front-line services is also very much at risk. Without a relief package, especially one targeting lost revenues, service cutbacks could result – alongside a wave of potential evictions, layoffs, and other effects. MACo’s Conduit Street Podcast talks with NACo staff “on the ground” to assess these issues, while Maryland fiscal leaders warn of the connection between federal relief, and the State’s own ability to make ends meet.

Conduit Street Podcast Corner:
On the latest episode of the Conduit Street Podcast, National Association of Counties (NACo) deputy director of government affairs Mark Ritacco joins Kevin Kinnally and Michael Sanderson to break down the competing coronavirus relief proposals being considered by Congress -- including the likelihood the next relief bill will include direct and flexible aid for state and local governments.
