Applications Now Available for $500 Million in Grants for Small Businesses

The first round of applications for the state of California's Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program is open from December 30, 2020 to January 8, 2021 at 11:59 pm. $500 million in grants, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, has been allocated for small businesses and nonprofits that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant program is NOT first-come, first-serve. Therefore, we encourage all applicants to take your time, gather all necessary documentation, and carefully review your application before submitting.

The Economic Development Collaborative recommends that you follow these steps:
1. Register for an informational webinar. The SBDC network is hosting daily webinars, in multiple languages, with live Q&A to help answer questions regarding this grant program. We highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Click HERE to register.

2. Review the application and step-by-step instructions before starting.

3. When you are ready to apply, visit www.CaReliefGrant.com and choose your appropriate language or county to view partners to apply through. You may choose to apply under any partner.

4. For further assistance, please call our EDC SBDC office 805.409.9159 (ENGLISH) or 805.309.5874 (SPANISH) to speak with a member of our staff. 

Businesses and nonprofits will be selected based on priority key factors, including the following:
  • Geographic distribution based on COVID-19 health and safety restrictions
  • Industry sectors most impacted by the pandemic
  • Underserved small business groups

We strongly encourage applicants to read through the FAQs and to work with one of the partners designated for Ventura County. (Both EDC and WEV are among the partners identified for Ventura County and for working with Spanish speakers.) You must apply through one of the designated partners.
Regional Stay-at-Home Order Extended

The State of California has extended the Regional Stay-at-Home Order that was triggered when our region fell below 15% remaining ICU capacity. The County of Ventura is in the Southern California region. On Tuesday, December 29, the California Department of Public Health reported that the Southern California region's ICU capacity dropped to 0%, thereby extending the Stay-at-Home Order in Ventura County. (Ventura County's ICU capacity was at .1% on Tuesday, far below the required 15% capacity.)

Private gatherings of any size are prohibited and residents are urged to stay home.

Futuro Health (a collaboration between Kaiser Permanente and SEIU-UHW) recently launched a campaign called “Tu Nuevo Futuro” to offer 1,000 Spanish dominant speakers in Southern California a tuition free, healthcare specific online English readiness course through a limited time offer pilot program.

Prospective Spanish dominant students may sign up for the English Readiness for Allied Health course by visiting www.tunuevofuturo.com to enroll or calling 1(855) 463-8580. The campaign seeks to connect with native Spanish speakers who need to improve their understanding of medical terminology to advance in career pathways in allied health.
