State Officer Candidate Information
What is a State Officer?:
FBLA High School state officers serve as representatives for members across New Jersey. They are responsible for designing the year’s goals. In doing so, they determine the direction of the upcoming year. Officers work together to develop state programming — including workshops, conferences, guides, etc. — and plan state events. In addition, state officers serve as liaisons between the local and national levels of FBLA High School.

What Positions are Available?:
President, Secretary, Historian, Parliamentarian, Northern Region Vice President, North Central Region Vice President, Central Region Vice President, Southern Region Vice President, Membership Vice President, Community Service Vice President, Webmaster

Who Can Apply?:
-All candidates must have at least 1 full year of study remaining. No seniors are eligible to apply.
-All candidates must have at least a 2.5 out of 4.0 cumulative unweighted GPA and maintain this average for the duration of their term.
-All FBLA candidates must have completed the Contributor, Leader, and Advocate levels of the Business Achievement Awards by the time the application is submitted
-Candidates for FBLA regional offices may only apply to serve the region in which their school is located.

How Does a Student Access the Business Achievement Awards?:

What is the Process to Run for Office?:
CAMPAIGN PROCESS FOR ELECTED OFFICES:
• All candidates will take a state officer candidate test. Candidates will be tested on a combination of FBLA High School history, rules, the NJ FBLA High School Program of Work, position-specific responsibilities, etc. Scores will be disclosed to all voting delegates.
• All candidates will give a campaign speech that is no longer than 3 minutes. No skits or giveaways are permitted during the campaign speech. During the three minutes, the candidate's campaign manager may introduce the candidate.
• Each candidate will create a flyer that will be posted on a general campaign website. However, candidates cannot have a personal campaign website.
• Candidates will participate in a question & answer session.
• Candidates will participate in campaigning during the State Leadership Conference.
• Candidates are permitted to spend up to $500 on the campaign.
• Candidates CANNOT campaign before or outside of designated campaign times.
• This includes social media, email, word of mouth, and printed media. Only a candidate's adviser and local chapter can be aware of his/her candidacy before the announcement of candidates by the state office. Any candidate found to have violated this rule will be immediately disqualified.

FBLA PARLIAMENTARIAN APPLICANTS:
• The applicant with the highest score on the Parliamentary Procedures test will be appointed to serve as State Parliamentarian. Applicants for the office of parliamentarian will no longer participate in campaigning.

FBLA WEBMASTER CANDIDATES:
• Applicants for the office of webmaster will participate in an interview with the 2022-23 FBLA State Officer Team who will vote to determine the appointee.

Webmaster applicants must submit a separate application. Applicants for Parliamentarian must take the Parliamentary Procedures exam onsite at SLC.

Individuals interested in becoming New Jersey FBLA's national officer candidate must also fill out the general application and completed all required BAAs by January 27. Students who are seeking a national office must attach their resume and letter of intent to their state officer application. National officer candidates are selected by the state officer team based upon an interview that will be held in late March/early April.

When are Applications Due?:
Applications are due at 5:00pm on Friday, January 27, 2023. Candidates should plan to complete the application in one sitting, as progress will not save.

What Signed Forms are Required?:
Applicants must complete and upload the Application AgreementParent AgreementCandidate Agreement, and the State Officer Infraction Policies and Procedures forms. Applicants must also upload a copy of their unofficial transcript and a professional headshot.

How Can Interested Students Learn More?: All prospective candidates are encouraged to attend the candidate briefing. Please register here for the State Officer Candidate Briefing Webinar at 6:30pm on Monday, January 16. It will be recorded. Advisers are parents are encouraged to attend as well. When registering, students should enter their chapter name and the office they are planning to run for. Advisers and parents should enter "adviser" and "parent" in that field, respectively. What is the Timeline for Officer Candidates?:

January 16: Informational Webinar (6:30pm)
*January 27: Complete Application Due (5:00pm)
*January 30-February 3: State Officer Candidate Bootcamp (5:30-8:30 each evening. All sessions are required for all applicants. Please contact Ms. Clark immediately if you have any preexisting conflicts.)
#February 4: Webmaster Interviews (Afternoon)
**February 6: Campaign Materials Due (5:00pm)
**February 8: Candidates to Receive Campaign Material Feedback
*March 1: Pre-SLC Briefing (Evening)
*March 6: Onsite Briefing/Officer Test (ALL positions)/Parliamentary Procedures Test (Parliamentarian candidates only) (Must report to onsite candidate briefing by 3:30pm at Harrah's)
**March 7: Onsite campaigning/Q&A
*March 8: 2023-24 State Officer Team Induction

Important Reminders:
All applicants for all positions, MUST complete the first 3 levels of the Business Achievement Awards by 5:00pm on January 27, 2023.

Students interested in running for state office MAY NOT share their intent with anyone outside of their chapter or on social media.
