Legislator Provides Advice for Student Officers
One of every JAG-K programs' highlights of fall is the election of student officers to direct the local organization for the school year. Those elected to head their respective 'career associations' officially take over their duties at each program's Initiation and Installation Ceremony.

Running for a student office can be intimidating. That's why Great Bend 11-12 Career Specialist Jennifer Hopkins invited state representative Tory Arnberger-Blew to speak to her career association about campaigning and holding office.

"Be yourself! Don’t try to copy what everyone else is doing," Arnberger-Blew told the group. "You don’t have to be the most outgoing person, but don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone."
Tour Jump Starts Manufacturing Month
In anticipation of Manufacturing Month in October, students from several JAG-K programs across the state participated in the 2021 Making Kansas Bus Tour in mid-September.

JAG-K programs across Kansas have activities and guest speakers planned to highlight manufacturing in Kansas during October. Some took advantage of the week-long tour, sponsored by the Kansas Manufacturing Council, in partnership with Kansas Manufacturing Solutions and Kansas Chamber of Commerce, which highlighted the state’s manufacturing industry and the career opportunities.

"We are so appreciative of the Kansas Chamber and all those involved who included us in this great event," said Kim Fertig, Director of Employer Engagement for JAG-K. "It gave our Career Specialists a chance to make valuable contacts in their communities, and allowed students to see the many career opportunties available to them."
JAG-K Day at McPherson College Connects Employers and Students
On Sept. 29, approximately 150 students from several JAG-K programs gathered for "JAG-K Day at McPherson College."

The students participated in a college tour, learned about scholarship opportunities, listened to guest speakers from local employers, and participated in the "JAG Olympics," a series of games for the schools to compete in.

"I believe good things happen when we speak with students about opportunities to engage and learn within our companies," said Hilary Worcester, Coordinator of Talent and Industry Partnerships for MKC. "Our messages as employers have the ability to help students consider what roles they might fit in based on their interests, get them excited about our companies and more enthusiastic about what work can be for them as a part of their life.

"There are great jobs across Kansas, it’s just a matter of reaching out to students and helping them learn how to find us, and what they can expect when they do.”
