Principal's Message
It is hard to believe that I am well into my 6th year as the proud principal at Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School as we celebrate our 10th year as a school! Legacy VAPA really is like fine wine, we keep getting better as we age. This year alone, we recruited many new faculty members and were able to add a second Spanish teacher, a second music teacher, and a second art teacher! While keeping our wonderful programs going such as Writing for Musicals, Debate Club, and ACADECA, we added the new California Cadet Corps program and are partnering with the Harmony Project bringing additional opportunities for music instruction to the young people of South Gate! The 10th Anniversary Gala on April 29, 2022, will feature original faculty members, alumni speakers and performers, and LAUSD VIP presenters. It will be an affair ot to be missed! Be sure to go to www.vapalegacy.net for more information. Thank you to Ms. Ashley Atilano, our wonderful AP English/ELA teacher and Yearbook sponsor for pulling together "State of the Arts" on her vacation.

Second Semester Begins Jan. 11th (Tuesday) + Baseline COVID-19 Test Requirement
In order to best prepare for school reopening as COVID-19 cases rise due to the Omicron variant, the first day of the spring semester will now be January 11th, 2022 (Tuesday). As well, all LAUSD students and employees, regardless of vaccination status, must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test in order to return to campus. For information on testing centers and to make a COVID-19 test appointment at a Los Angeles Unified site, please visit lausd.net/covidtestingappt or call the Family Help Desk at (213) 443-1300. While appointments are encouraged, no appointment is needed for Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 tests. For a link of operating hours by testing site, please visit achieve.lausd.net/covidtestingappt. There is also a testing site at Legacy International HS 8 AM to 4 PM on Jan. 6-8 and 10th. Walk-ins are welcome. Families may also submit an external PCR, antigen, or at-home test. However, if you choose to do so please submit the results onto the student's Daily Pass no later than Jan. 9th, 2022 (Sun). For more information on COVID-19 policies for Spring 2022 please visit https://achieve.lausd.net/spring2022.

Let's look back at our Fall 2021 Semester...
Before the start of the school year, we held our Legacy VAPA Summer Bridge program Aug. 9-12! Students from the Class of 2025 had the chance to learn about instruments, acting, and leadership. A big thank you to VAPA Arts Faculty, Juan Cuevas and Stacie Craig who led the program. You can find more images from the day here.
Congratulations to all of our Tiger athletes for each of their seasons so far this school year!
Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19
Vaccinations are an essential part of protection against COVID-19, especially as the Omicron variant spreads. LAUSD is requiring students 12 and older who attend school in-person to be in compliance with the vaccine requirement by the start of the Fall 2022 semester, unless the student has an approved medical exemption or qualifies for conditional admissions. For more information or to schedule a vaccine appointment please visit https://achieve.lausd.net/covidvaccineappt.
Congrats to all the students who won vaccine incentive prizes on 12/18! All students awarded prizes are fully vaccinated. There will be another drawing in March. Prizes included a Nintendo Switch, Apple AirPods, Electric Scooters, Drones, and more!
In September, our 9th graders had the opportunity to participate in the ACE Program for the 5th year in a row. The ACE Program provides opportunities for students to grow as leaders and social-emotionally. Thank you to Educare and our facilitators!
ACE will be returning in March for the Class of 2024!

Caroling 2021

The 2021 Caroling Tour is now in the books! For another year, Legacy VAPA has gone out into the community singing for thousands. This year, the VAPA performers focused on schools, visiting 9 elementary schools and 1 middle school, all in South Gate, on Dec. 17. The group was well received, performing in hallways and in school yards. Performers included instrumentalists and vocalists directed by Juan Cuevas and Valerie Espinoza. Dr. Trimis organized the trip. This was the 5th year VAPA has done the community caroling. Dr. Trimis has done a similar trip leading groups from different schools across the district, nearly every year, since 1985

Dress Code and Attendance are Updated
It was about time, it took 10 years to revise our dress code and now t's been done. Thank you to our team of students and staff who met multiple times to finalize the changes that were then approved by our Local School Leadership Council. Special thanks to Ms. Barragan and Mr. Legaspi who met with several student focus groups to gather input and make recommendations. Also revised is the Attendance Policy. There were no changes to the Code of Conduct policy. Please note all policies go into effect on Jan. 11 including consequences such as alternative clothing, parent contacts, and progressive discipline and detention.
Updated guidelines can be found here.
