Principal's Message
OK, maybe the theme for 2022-23 is bold and hopeful. But it must be. Schools are climbing out of what some have described as the most difficult year in public education in decades. Yes, we did come back from teaching and learning online. And, yes, we are catching up our promise students and re-establishing routines. But it has not been easy. Schools are facing issues in school climate they have not seen in years (and, in some cases, ever at their schools). Some schools have fights weekly that use to have 1 or less a year. In many cases, social media is out of control. Everything, from teaching and learning to supporting students and families is more difficult. So we have to boldly go towards the future. We have so much going on at Legacy VAPA that is great right now, and amazing plans for 2022-23, we will meet our goals and succeed in what we are planning to get done. No question about that. We're jumping in with both feet, taking a leap of faith, and moving steadily, boldly, into the future. We will be visited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and are thrilled to share with the visiting team all we have been doing the last 6 years!
OK, for this year: started California Cadet Corps, began afternoon music classes and a partnership with the Harmony Project, grew our Leader in Me program offering a summer Leadership Institute as we move towards Lighthouse School status, welcomed Chix Rock South East LA to host their summer camp at VAPA, won the CA Pivotal Practice Award from the CA Dept. of Education, recorded a new promo video, brought back live performances (Frozen the Musical, Winterfest, Springfest), brought on board new teachers and staff (including a 2nd art teacher), went deep into our WASC Accreditation goals/teams, and held a 10-Year Anniversary Gala Event (to mention a few things). Next year, even more is coming as we add new multiple new AP and other new classes (Pre-AP Chemistry, AP Research/Seminar as part of AP Capstone, AP Human Geography, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry (returning), Ethnic Studies, and more, plan to welcome our WASC visit, adding a new CTE Stage Tech Teacher, moving our PD schedule, and more! So, here we go. We are wrapping up 2021-22 and Boldly Going Towards the Future in 2022-23!
