Dr. You to Speak at Chemistry Symposium

Dr. Yaqi You has been invited to give a talk titled "Carbonaceous materials as a modulator of plant rhizosphere: New insights into the microbiome and metabolome" at the American Chemical Society Spring 2024 on March 20 as part of the Royal Society of Chemistry Symposium "Showcasing Emerging Investigators and Future Perspectives.” This symposium highlights high-quality, cutting-edge research carried out by rising stars in the environmental sciences.

Students’ Work Published in Green Chemistry Journal

The journal article titled "Recent Advances in Hydrotropic Solvent Systems for Lignocellulosic Biomass Utilization," written by a postdoc Dr. Soyeon Jeong and graduate student Jiae Ryu in the Department of Chemical Engineering, was selected as an inside back cover in Green Chemistry journal. This article reviews the fundamental knowledge and recent applications of various hydrotropic solvents including the ones the team developed.

Biorefinery Engineering Laboratory, led by Dr. Chang Geun Yoo, has worked on hydrotropic solvents for biomass utilization. The team published several research articles on this topic in leading journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal, Green Chemistry, and ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering, and has also been supported by an NSF grant.

Construction Notice: Jahn/Baker Parking Lot Closed March 12

The parking lot behind Jahn and Baker laboratories will be closed all day Tuesday, March 12, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate a crane lifting steel piping to the roof of Jahn Laboratory.

The crane will be situated as shown in the diagram. All campus roads will remain open, but the shaded areas of the parking lot indicated below will be coned off. The south breezeway door between Jahn and Baker that leads to the parking lot will also be closed. No pedestrian or vehicular traffic will be allowed in the shaded area of the parking lot and sidewalks. As rigging will be done above an occupied floor, no one will be allowed access to the fourth floor that day as a safety precaution. Please plan your day accordingly.
