State of the Texas Nonprofit Sector
As we reflect on the nonprofit landscape in Texas, it is clear that this sector is not just a vital part of our communities—it is a dynamic force for change and support. With over 130,000 nonprofits operating across the state, the Texas nonprofit sector is booming, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.
Last month, we hosted a State of the Texas Nonprofit Sector webinar to learn from front-line voices and identify meaningful ways to take action to better support our communities. Check out our event recap to read our top five insights from the panel discussion, download slides, or watch the full recording!
Special thanks to our guest speakers Nicole Coller (Center of Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Bush School), Veronda Durden (Any Baby Can), Kelty Garbee (Texas Rural Funders), and Colton C. Strawser (Colton Stawser Consulting)!

New study encourages investing in the financial needs and well-being of nonprofit workers
A new study by Independent Sector and United For ALICE reveals that 22% of nonprofit employees faced financial hardship in 2022. The ALICE in the Nonprofit Workforce report provides a detailed analysis of the financial struggles of the 13.9 million nonprofit workers in the U.S. It highlights that while 5% of these workers live below the poverty line, another 17% fall into the ALICE category (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), unable to meet basic living costs.
Check out the report and join the call for data-driven solutions to address the financial well-being of our vital workforce!

Join the call for timely nonprofit workforce data
Nonprofits only receive workforce data every five years, unlike for-profits that get updated data quarterly. This delay hampers our ability to serve communities and for policymakers to make informed decisions. You can help fix this inequity by signing the National Letter for Nonprofit Workforce Data, urging President Biden to release nonprofit workforce data regularly. Sign by Wednesday, October 2, and encourage your network to do the same.
Thanks to Aspen Institute, Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation, Independent Sector, and National Council of Nonprofits for leading this important nationwide effort!
