Alderman Reilly Reports

Statement from Alderman Reilly

Regarding May 18th Shooting

“Early Sunday morning, a man was shot multiple times while sitting in his car in the parking lot at 319 West Ontario Street. After the shooting, the victim exited his vehicle and walked to Franklin and Erie where he collapsed. The victim is in critical condition at Northwestern Hospital.

While targeted acts of violence like this can be difficult to prevent, the late-night activity in this area is predictable and requires a more coordinated strategy. This type of violence in the heart of River North is incredibly concerning. It’s still early in the season and temperatures are mild—we need to get ahead of this now.

I’ll be meeting with the 18th District Commander to discuss CPD's late-night deployment strategy. The Commander has already committed to assigning officers from the Community Emergency Response (CERT) and Entertainment Venue (EVT) Teams to the area—an encouraging step in the right direction.”

Noise Camera Ordinance Hearing Rescheduled

The subject matter hearing for Alderman Reilly’s Automated Muffler Enforcement Pilot Program is being rescheduled. It will no longer take place on Thursday, May 22.
