Statement from Merced County Superintendent of Schools on Le Grand Tragedy
We are all devastated at the heartbreaking loss of two Le Grand Elementary School students and their young preschool sibling in what law enforcement officials are calling a triple homicide.

The Merced County Office of Education joins Le Grand Elementary School District in mourning the tragic deaths of these students and is offering counseling services to students and teachers, with additional MCOE staff on-site to assist with district operations as the school community grieves this loss.

As a parent and grandparent, it’s difficult to make sense of a tragedy of this magnitude. I know that Le Grand is a strong and resilient community, and we will work together to process this tragedy and support their school, district, and families.

While it is only natural to question the circumstances that led to this, we are leaving the investigation in the hands of local law enforcement and will remain sensitive to the privacy of those grieving.

If you need support, community resources, or just someone to talk to, Merced County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services has a free Youth Warm Hotline at (888) 334-0163 or (209) 381-6800 available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and a Suicide Prevention Hotline at (888) 506-5991.
