We want to address questions that have surfaced about whether tonight’s meeting of the Boise School Board will address the personnel matter of Timberline High School Math Teacher Laura Boulton. The short answer is no.
The Boise School District has an extensive and comprehensive process, in accordance with applicable laws, procedures and policies, when it comes to addressing such personnel matters. Currently, Ms. Boulton is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is currently underway.
We are aware that Ms. Boulton is incorrectly claiming that the Board meeting agenda will include her personnel matter. Again, we want to be clear that her status with the Boise School District is not and has never been on the Boise School Board’s agenda for tonight’s meeting, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the District Services Center.
At each Board meeting of the Boise School Board, public comments are limited to Board agenda items only. In addition, in compliance with Idaho law relative to staff confidentiality, such staff investigations, and the decisions related to those decisions, are never addressed in an open Board meeting. Boise School Board Policy 1441 does not allow personally directed public comments to the Board for this reason. Lastly, once the investigation is complete, if the investigation finds an employee at fault, the Board will act as the jury. To ensure that Board members act in an impartial manner, and maintain staff confidentiality, trustees do not discuss nor hear public comments on current personnel investigations.
In attending Board meetings, it’s important to be aware that no posters or signs are allowed in the Boardroom, per Board meeting protocols, and all Board meetings are conducted in accordance with the District’s values of Respect, Dignity, Honesty, Responsibility and Teamwork.
Furthermore, the Boise School District has issued a public statement on the matter and we encourage you to review that statement, which includes our commitment to maintaining safe and secure schools for our students, staff, parents and overall community.
