Brooklyn, NY — The Kings County Democratic Executive Committee announced today that it will appeal the court ruling issued on September 14, 2026, concerning the August 25th Executive Committee meeting and the reforms adopted therein.
“Today’s ruling is a disappointment and undermines the lawful work of the Kings County Democratic Executive Committee. The August 25th meeting was properly convened, conducted under long‑standing Party Rules, and focused on necessary reforms to strengthen transparency, continuity, and participation within our party.
"The court’s decision disregards the clear intent of the Party Rules and decades of practice recognizing the Executive Committee’s authority to adopt rules and reforms necessary to prepare for an incoming County Committee. It misinterprets those rules and disrupts the established practice that ensures stability during transitions.
"We firmly disagree with the ruling and will be appealing it. We are reviewing all available options to protect the integrity of the reforms adopted on August 25th and to ensure that the County Committee can organize under rules that reflect the needs of a modern, diverse, and growing Democratic electorate.
Brooklyn Democrats deserve a party that is functional, transparent, and prepared — not one frozen by litigation or stripped of its ability to govern. We will continue fighting for that vision.
"The court did not fully appreciate what the statute says, and we will respectfully pursue our appellate rights forthwith.”
