Statement from the Memphis Muslim Community
Update to Masjid Reopening Status
As mentioned in our previous letter, we are continuously evaluating the situation in our city, community, and across the nation to make the best overall decision for our Memphis community. That includes staying up to date with guidelines and case numbers from Shelby County and the State of Tennessee as well as expert recommendations from our infectious disease experts, religious leadership, and local masjid leadership.
Yesterday our Memphis Muslim Community leadership met with all the new information available from all parties and decided that in the best interest for the health and safety of our community we will remain closed until after Eid. In the meantime, we will be meeting with our local infectious disease experts and medical professionals on creating procedures and guidelines for our masjids and centers to follow when we eventually reopen. Afterwards we will reconvene using the latest information and advice available to us to decide if and when we can proceed towards our masjids opening.
Our priority remains the health and safety of our community. InshAllah, we plan to provide another update to the community within the next few weeks. In the meantime, community members are encouraged to continue to practice social distancing in all activities. Please reach out to your masjid leadership should you have any questions.
