ASSEMBLYMEMBER RODNEYSE BICHOTTE HERMELYN’S STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO MASS SHOOTING IN FLATBUSH
Brooklyn, NY – The 70th police precinct is actively investigating a shooting that occurred this morning at Nostrand Avenue and Glenwood Road. According to the N.Y.P.D., four people were injured and transported to Kings County and Maimonides hospitals. In response to the shooting, Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn issued the following statement:

“Today, another devastating shooting injured four people in our district. Gun violence has permeated our communities and devastated family after family. In fact, this is the second mass shooting in Flatbush/East Flatbush in less than two months. Tragedies of this scale should be called exactly what they are -- mass shootings -- and this event rises to that level.

Today, I reiterate my call to our federal representatives to pass smart gun-reform legislation, which I have also championed in the state Legislature alongside my colleagues.

I thank the precinct for their quick response, and pray for the victims and their families. Our office is working in tandem with the police, Councilmember Farah N. Louis, and advocates to help the community heal and to acquire additional resources for violence intervention programs. We must combat the root causes of gun violence before another tragedy occurs.”
