COUNCIL MEMBER RODRIGUEZ STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF FAMILIES FOR SAFER STREETS

New York, NY--On Sunday, February 23rd, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Chair of the Council Committee on Transportation, stood with the newly formed advocacy group, Families for Safer Streets, in support of Mayor Bill de Blasio's Vision Zero Initiative to limit traffic related deaths to zero over 10 years.

Council Member Rodriguez released this statement following the group's initial press conference:

"I am so moved today, standing with families of the victims of traffic deaths in our city. Their dedication to fighting for greater safety for the most vulnerable who use our streets, in the face of such devastating tragedy, is truly inspiring. This is a pivotal moment in our city. With our Mayor, Bill de Blasio, our Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito, and so many others on the same page, we will at long last see the improvements to our streets and laws that will protect New Yorkers for generations to come. We cannot and will not allow traffic violence to go unaddressed any longer. Tomorrow, we will dig into the Vision Zero plan at the City Council, bringing forth the concerns of the public so that we can continue working together to make NYC the safest big city in the world."
