The Latino Commission on AIDS and the Hispanic Health Network condemn the horrific murder of Tyre Nichols by Memphis Police officers. We stand in solidarity with Tyre’s family and the Memphis community, and grieve with them during these difficult times. Tyre was a son, brother, father, friend, and member of our community and he should be alive today. 

Our hearts remain heavy after the murders of Garner, Brown, Rice, Scott, Sterling, Castile, Taylor, Floyd, Wright and many more. Our country is once again witnessing another Black life violently taken by police brutality, as we remain concerned about the systemic oppression of Black people, of which we firmly call to end. We stand with the Black community in fighting for a future that is safe, and in which the Black community can safely thrive in peace.

La Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA y la Red de Salud Hispana condenan el horrible asesinato de Tyre Nichols por Policías de Memphis. Nos solidarizamos con la familia de Tyre, la comunidad de Memphis, y estamos entristecidos con ellos durante estos tiempos difíciles. Tyre fue un hijo, hermano, padre, amigo y miembro de nuestra comunidad y debería estar vivo hoy.

Nuestros corazones siguen perturbados después de los asesinatos de Garner, Brown, Rice, Scott, Sterling, Castile, Taylor, Floyd, Wright y muchos más. Nuestro país es testigo una vez más de otra vida negra arrebatada violentamente por la brutalidad policiaca, y seguimos preocupados por la opresión sistémica que sufren comunidades negras, y llamamos firmemente a que esta realidad termine. Apoyamos a la comunidad negra en la lucha por un futuro seguro y en el que la comunidad negra pueda prosperar en paz de manera segura.
