The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati mourns the tragic murder of another innocent soul, George Floyd. Racial injustice and police brutality are the scourges upon our nation which prevent us from realizing our full potential of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.

Unfortunately, George Floyd's murder is one that has become the norm for our country, and as Muslims we cannot turn a blind eye to this pattern of injustice.

We urge Americans of all races to go beyond their comfort zones to have courageous discussions about understanding what systemic racism is and the devastating effect it has had on our society for generations.  The only path onward is to make it our priority to address this with compassion, accountability, dialogue, and meaningful policy reform.

We extend our sincere condolences to the Floyd family, and to the many others who have lost their lives because of the color of their skin.  We pray that our words become actions which preserve the sanctity of life for all.
