Dear Carroll Community,

This is an update on our Phased Reopening Health and Safety Plan, which is expected to be affirmed by the Archbishop John Carroll Board of Directors on Monday, Aug. 17. Following the expected affirmation, the complete plan will be sent to you.

For background, the archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education (OCE) directed Archbishop John Carroll High School to use the Pennsylvania Department of Education “Phased School Reopening Health and Safety Plan Template” to demonstrate that we have thought  through, planned, and are prepared to meet the health and safety needs of students in the face of a coronavirus outbreak.

Major components of the template include:

  • Identification of a Pandemic Coordinator and Team
  • Cleaning, Sanitizing, Disinfecting, and Ventilation
  • Social Distancing and Other Safety Protocols
  • Monitoring Student and Staff Health
  • Other Considerations for Students and Staff
  • Professional Development Plan
  • Health and Safety Plan Communication

The Guiding Principles of the Plan include:
  • Review and recognition of the science of the COVID-19 Virus
  • Attuned to what credible authorities are saying.
  • Review and recognition of the policy and procedure guidelines published by authorities, especially Archdiocese of Philadephia/OCE and Pennsylvania Department of Health and Chester County Health Department
  • Understanding of the art and science of how people act or behave, under such guidelines
  • Recognition and confidence of “what works for Carroll.”
  • Willingness to adapt and be flexible.

Pillars of the Plan, all with an overlay of accurate, timely, and responsible communication, include:

  • Education and Awareness
  • Prevention
  • Protection
  • Mitigation

Priority #1 is the monitoring and ensuring the health of our students, faculty and staff.

If you have any return to school questions, please direct them to Director of Communications Courtney Peters at [email protected].

Sincerely,
Dr. Anchen Schulz, Principal
