Warning Signs of Fraud

Financial Fraud Attempts in Our Area

Several local financial institutions are reporting an increase in online fraud attempts, particularly those targeting business clients.

Some are quite sophisticated: the fraudsters might have learned information about your business, your employees, and/or your accounts, and use it as part of a phony "verification" or "authentication process" to gain access to your online banking profile. Your Caller ID might even show the bank's phone number (also known as spoofing).

How to Tell if It's Fraud

Know the types of questions a bank would never ask you. Bank of Canton representatives will NEVER ask you for your online banking username, password, PIN, or any one-time passcodes sent to your phone or token. They also won't ask you for your account number or Social Security number. If you are asked to provide any of these things, it is likely a scam.

End the Conversation and Call Us

If you get an unexpected phone call from Bank of Canton that leads to a request for passcodes, PINs, or other sensitive information – even if Caller ID shows the bank's phone number, or the caller knows some of your personal data – hang up. If you get a Bank of Canton email or text instructing you to resolve an unexpected problem, don't click any links and delete it. Then call the bank's main number (888-828-1690) to find out whether or not the request was legitimate.

If you think you've been the victim of a fraud attempt, call our main line at 888-828-1690 immediately for assistance.
