Letter from Suanne

To all nomads at heart,

Thank you for your continued support of the work of Homes On Wheels Alliance (HOWA). I am both proud and honored to be part of a team of staff, trustees, volunteers, and donors who both see the needs and act to help, staying true to our mission:

Homes On Wheels Alliance supports nomads in need through training and resources while building an empowering and compassionate community.

Surprisingly, HOWA serves many older women in need – women like your grandmas, aunties, mothers, and sisters.  Women who raised families, while often working part time jobs. Women who did everything that society expected, but now, in their later years, do not have the resources to meet all their needs for food, shelter, and medical/Rx. Of course, HOWA also serves many men in need, as well as those under 55. Consider the demographics of HOWA’s 86K-member discussion group on Facebook where almost 2/3 are female and more than half of the women are over 55 years of age.

HOWA GROUP on Facebook 86,000 members

Because of your support, HOWA is enabled to help men and women who need a hand up. HOWA gives them the tools to thrive within the lower-cost nomadic lifestyle while retaining their dignity, self-sufficiency, and a respected place within a caring and compassionate community of other nomads.

Making people’s lives better would not be possible without the wisdom and strategic guidance of HOWA’s Board of Trustees, the selflessness of an army of nomad volunteers, nor the long-standing commitment to service of HOWA’s program staff -- Bobbi Stice and Tracey Powers.

Thank you all!

Meet Pete!

HOWA has a brand new team member! Pete Bettencourt is now HOWA’s Tech Support Coordinator and Bookkeeper.

Pete is an active, gregarious nomad who travels with his beautiful dog Kitty. He has many diverse skills along with a compassionate heart.

You may have met him already. Pete was a volunteer at the last Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in Event Support.

He also volunteered at April’s Boondocking Skills Camp where he taught vehicle maintenance and provided information about solar power systems. Every morning Pete generously provided coffee at the campfire ring.

After the Training Camp, Pete volunteered some more at the In-Person Caravan.

We now look forward to working with Pete to help HOWA operate smoothly.

Emergency Fund: The unexpected happens to all of us

The HOWA eFund Program is for active nomads in need whose primary residence is their vehicle. Unexpected situations happen leaving us out of control without enough financial, family, or friend resources to fix the emergency.

That is when the HOWA eFund may be able to help.

The HOWA eFund is 100% funded by donations from the nomad community. In 2024, 51 awards were made totaling $28,434.50. What an amazing community that supports other nomads in this way. Together, We'll Keep the Wheels Turning

Like many individuals and organizations across the country, Homes On Wheels Alliance (HOWA) is facing some financial challenges. While we continue to be careful stewards of every dollar, we’ve reached a point where we must start to scale back certain programs to allow our small but mighty team—just 1.5 program staff!—to focus on the heart of HOWA’s mission to serve nomads in need.

Our commitment is unwavering. HOWA will continue to provide training and resources while building an empowering and compassionate community of nomads. That’s what you make possible.

If you’re able, we ask you to consider making a gift today. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us continue to empower those seeking safety, self-sufficiency, and connection on the road.

Together, we change lives.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.

With gratitude,

The HOWA Team

WIN BOB WELLS' AMBULANCE and $10,000

Support Homes On Wheels Alliance when you donate to get your entries!

Bob Wells is supporting HOWA once more! He has donated the rig he lived in for the past two years for a sweepstakes. The winner of this four wheel drive ambulance will also win $10,000!

Ambo at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff

During the month of May, the ambulance was taken to the Overlander Expo in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was parked strategically to catch the eye of attendees as they entered the Expo. Many overland enthusiasts like the idea of four-wheel, diesel rig like this one. We want to give a special thanks to Pete Bettencourt for taking time to pick up the ambo and get it to the three-day event and then return it to where it is stored.
