The Importance of Connection

Studies show that a lack of human connection has adverse effects on our physical and emotional health. For seniors who live alone or without a supportive community, strengthening interpersonal connections can be a means of improving quality of life. JFS' Lunch with Friends, a weekly congregate meal program for seniors over 60, offers a nutritional meal while creating a warm, friendly space to gather with new and old friends in the community.

Having an interactive, supportive program like Lunch with Friends can help seniors stay active, engaged and healthy. We recently caught up with husband and wife, Flo and Burt (pictured), attending Lunch with Friends in Highland Park, who were eager to sit and enjoy a hearty meal among their growing community of friends. They enjoy "meeting and greeting everyone" and the "big meals" help them stay nourished.

Lunch with Friends offers more than just a tasty meal – it is a way to promote well-being for seniors today and in the future. Senior adults interested in joining JFS’ Lunch with Friends in Monroe Township or Highland Park should call 732-777-1940 or email us at office@jfsmiddlesex.org. If you know a senior who would benefit from this program, ask them to contact us today for more information.

Get to Know JFS...

Each week, we will spotlight a JFS program in our Get to Know JFS Series – This week is the Kosher Food Pantries.

The JFS Kosher Food Pantries, located in the North Brunswick and Monroe Township offices, provide non-perishable food to Middlesex County residents from all backgrounds. Individuals in need can receive groceries ranging from cereal and shelf-stable milk to pasta and canned items to fresh produce and dairy items, as available. JFS pantries also provide mobile food distribution at community events via our On the Road service. JFS staff survey households to determine dietary needs and restrictions, and to provide routes to self-sufficiency for households that may need more than just food assistance. If you know someone in need, have them contact JFS to schedule a food pantry appointment, 732-777-1940 or office@jfsmiddlesex.org.

JFS is committed to fighting food insecurity and increasing access to nutritious food in our community. With rising prices for food, gas and other essentials, more families in need are visiting our pantries every week. Please support JFS Kosher Food Pantries by donating online; for more information about how you can help, email office@jfsmiddlesex.org or call 732-777-1940. Thank you!
