| |
Welcome to the first monthly edition of my newsletter. Beginning this year, we’re moving from a quarterly update to a monthly format so I can share more timely information, important county updates, and community highlights with you as they happen.
Each month, you’ll find news from the Board of Supervisors, upcoming events across Simi Valley and Moorpark, and ways my office is working for you at the county level. My goal is to keep you informed, engaged, and connected to the work being done.
Thank you for staying connected, and I look forward to continuing this conversation with you throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Supervisor Janice S. Parvin

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, I joined Rancho Simi Parks & Recreation for a hands-on day of giving back to our community. We spent the day at the new Equestrian Center, sanding and painting all the railings to help prepare this exciting new space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that service is a powerful way to strengthen our communities. Working side by side with Rancho Simi staff and volunteers, we turned a day of remembrance into a day of action, making a visible difference and helping ensure this facility is ready to serve our community.

Stop Human Trafficking Awareness Month
At the January 13th Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting, we proudly recognized January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month, bringing attention to an issue that too often remains hidden but impacts communities everywhere, including here in Ventura County.
Human trafficking is a serious violation of human rights, and addressing it requires awareness, collaboration, and compassion. The Board honored several organizations doing critical work to prevent trafficking, support survivors, and educate the public, including Interface Children & Family Services, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Human Trafficking Task Force, Forever Found, and Soroptimist International of Simi Valley and Oxnard.
We are grateful for these dedicated partners and their continued commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and strengthening our community through education, advocacy, and action.

I was honored to be recognized by Forever Found with a Certificate of Appreciation for my leadership and commitment to stopping human trafficking.
This work matters. Protecting victims, raising awareness, and holding traffickers accountable requires strong partnerships and a shared commitment to justice. Human trafficking impacts communities everywhere, and addressing it takes continued collaboration and vigilance.
I am grateful for the important work Forever Found does every day to support survivors and combat exploitation, and I am proud to stand with them in this critical fight.

EDC Annual Meeting Panelist
I participated in a panel discussion at the Economic Development Collaborative’s Annual Meeting focused on Ventura County’s role in film production and the future of our local film-ready ecosystem.
Ventura County has hosted film productions for over a century, and this conversation highlighted what makes that success sustainable: productions that respect our neighborhoods, strong coordination between cities, the County, and public safety partners, and clear processes that reduce impacts while maximizing local economic benefits.
Over the past year, I also brought forward a Board letter to begin updating Ventura County’s film ordinance to allow for responsible growth of the film industry in our region. This update is currently underway, and the revised ordinance is expected to be completed later this year.
Film continues to be an important economic driver in Ventura County, and I remain committed to supporting policies that balance creativity, community well-being, and economic opportunity.
| | | Emergency Board Meeting January 6th | |
On January 6, 2026, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors convened a special emergency meeting to address urgent County needs related to recent severe weather and infrastructure impacts. This meeting provided the Board with the opportunity to take immediate action on priorities that support public safety, emergency preparedness, and the health of our communities.
During this session, Board members reviewed critical information and directives from County agencies, including updates on emergency response activities and the ongoing effects of recent storms on County infrastructure. Community resilience and safety remain top priorities for the Board as Ventura County continues recovery and preparation efforts.
Stay informed and engaged with County actions by visiting the Board of Supervisors’ Agendas & Broadcasts page, where meeting materials, emergency notices, and livestream information are available.

Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to Emma Servera from Knolls Elementary for being honored as Teacher of the Month by the Simi Valley Education Foundation.
| | | Homeless Point in Time Count | |
Each January, Ventura County participates in the Homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a federally required effort that provides a snapshot of homelessness in our community on a single night. The count includes individuals and families who are unsheltered as well as those staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing. It is coordinated by the Ventura County Continuum of Care in partnership with the County, service providers, and dedicated community volunteers.
The PIT Count plays a critical role in helping Ventura County understand the scope and nature of homelessness locally. The data collected is used to guide policy decisions, plan programs and services, and secure vital federal and state funding for housing, outreach, and supportive services. While it represents just one night in time, the count helps identify trends and measure progress toward reducing homelessness.
Results from recent counts show encouraging progress, reflecting the impact of housing investments, collaboration, and expanded services across the county. The PIT Count is an important reminder that addressing homelessness requires accurate data, coordinated efforts, and a shared commitment to solutions that support our most vulnerable neighbors.

Simi Valley YMCA Groundbreaking
The groundbreaking of the new Simi Valley YMCA was an exciting step forward for this long-standing community resource. This expansion will enhance the YMCA’s ability to serve families, seniors, and youth by creating additional space for programs that promote health and connection. I was given the privilege to speak about the importance this expansion is to our community at the groundbreaking ceremony on January 24th.
The Simi Valley YMCA has long been a cornerstone of our community, and this groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new chapter that will strengthen connections and promote healthy living. We look forward to seeing this vision become a reality for Simi Valley.
