As we move further into the new year, I remain focused on strengthening partnerships, supporting public safety, investing in education, and ensuring county services meet the evolving needs of our residents. This month has been filled with meaningful events, from honoring outstanding public servants and celebrating student achievement.
In this edition, you’ll find highlights from recent community gatherings, recognitions, education, support for our Veterans, and strengthening partnerships across Simi Valley, Moorpark, and throughout the Fourth District. As always, it is an honor to represent you and to work alongside so many committed residents and organizations who are helping move our county forward.
Sincerely,

29th Annual Simi Valley Police & Community Awards Luncheon
I attended the 29th Annual Police & Community Partnership Recognition Awards Luncheon hosted by the Simi Valley Police Foundation. This meaningful annual tradition recognizes the exceptional officers, professional staff, volunteers, and community partners who go above and beyond in service to our community.
This year’s honorees included Officer Steve Philbrook (Officer of the Year), Dispatcher Jordan Cook (Dispatcher of the Year), Explorer Tim Abdelmessih (Explorer of the Year), Detective Kellyn King (Meritorious Service Award), Community Service Coordinator Janet Seghi (Professional Staff Member of the Year), the Property Crimes Unit (Unit Citation), Communications Manager Erin Cooper (Chief’s Community Service Award), Chaplain William Martin (Volunteer of the Year), Officer Daniel Muoio (DUI Enforcement Award), and Detective Jeffrey Takeda and Isai Garcia (Chief’s Community Policing Award).
The luncheon also included a heartfelt tribute to the family of Officer Alec Sanders, a Simi Valley native who began his journey in law enforcement through the department’s Explorer Program and tragically lost his life in the line of duty in November 2025 in Alhambra. His dedication to serving his community and his ultimate sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the courage and commitment demonstrated by those who wear the badge.
Events like this highlight the strength of the partnership between our police department and the community. I am grateful to all those who serve and to the families who support them every day.

It was a privilege to participate at the Eagle Court of Honor for Xavier Selvin and celebrate his remarkable achievement of earning the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. This prestigious honor represents years of leadership and service to the community, culminating in a meaningful project that will have a lasting local impact. Eagle Scouts exemplify the values of integrity, perseverance, and civic responsibility, and Xavier’s accomplishment reflects his commitment to making a difference. Congratulations to Xavier, his family, and his troop on this well-deserved milestone achievement.

Scouting America Awards, North Star Award
I was honored to be a recipient of the North Star Award from Scouting America. This prestigious recognition is presented to non-registered individuals, or “non-Scouters,” who have provided significant and distinguished service in support of Scouting’s mission. Scouting America has long played a vital role in developing character, leadership, and a commitment to service in young people throughout our community. To be recognized by an organization dedicated to preparing the next generation for responsible citizenship is humbling. I am grateful for the partnership we share in strengthening Ventura County and investing in our youth.

For The Troops Gala
Honoring Our Vietnam Veterans
It was an incredible honor to serve as Co-Chair of the 2026 Military Tribute Gala benefiting For The Troops. This special evening brought our community together to recognize and support our deployed service members through the organization’s mission of sending “We Care” packages and uplifting those who serve our country.
Being part of the leadership team for this event was rewarding, and I am grateful to everyone who attended, sponsored, and volunteered to make the evening such a success. The gala was a reminder of the strong support our community has for our military and their families, and the impact we can make when we come together to give back. Thank you to For The Troops for the vital work they do and for allowing me the opportunity to help with this important effort.

This month brought several exciting ribbon cuttings celebrating new and expanding businesses across our communities. We welcomed Park Golf Lounge and celebrated the expansion of Bezign Design, highlighting continued growth and innovation in Moorpark. In Simi Valley, we marked the opening of Porcellino’s Italian Market & Deli, a fantastic addition for those who enjoy authentic Italian foods. We also cut the ribbon on WaBa Grill, bringing even more dining options to Moorpark residents. It is great to see businesses investing in our communities and contributing to a strong local economy. | | | | | |
