RESOURCES

Early Resolution Resources Now Available

We are excited to share new SPEDTex resources designed to help families and schools resolve concerns early and collaboratively. To support this collaborative approach, Early Resolution (ER) offers informal, voluntary methods for resolving disagreements. ER promotes open communication, mutual understanding, and problem-solving to help all families and schools reach outcomes that meet the student’s needs and strengthen family-school relationships. The newly updated Early Resolution resources can help strengthen communication, support early problem‑solving, and ensure families receive timely assistance when concerns arise.

Essentials of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee Meetings

The world of special education can be overwhelming for families. It is important to understand the essentials of an ARD committee meeting. Parents/guardians are very important members of this committee. The Essentials of Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee Meetings for Parents resource covers some big ideas that will help parents be ready for their child’s next ARD committee meeting.

What is ECI?

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a program run by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission or HHSC. It helps families with children from birth to 36 months who have developmental delays, disabilities, or certain medical conditions that may affect development. ECI services help families learn ways to support their child’s growth and learning.

UPCOMING EVENT

Understanding Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and Dyslexia in Special Education

Join us for a free webinar on April 22, 2026, at 12:15 p.m. (CST). Understanding SLD and Dyslexia in Special Education is designed to help parents better understand how schools identify and support students with learning disabilities. This presentation will explain how parents can request a special education evaluation, what a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) means under special education law, and how dyslexia fits within the SLD category.

Parents will learn what to expect during the evaluation process, who is involved, and how decisions are made about eligibility and services. The session also explains the types of instruction and support that may be provided for students with dyslexia when they qualify for special education.

In addition, this presentation reviews parent rights, including what options are available if a parent disagrees with the results of an evaluation. The goal is to provide clear, accurate information so parents feel informed, supported, and confident in partnering with their child’s school to meet their child’s learning needs. Register here.
