Have You Heard the News?
The Niche 2019 Best Private High Schools ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents. Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings, and more. Data sourced from the U.S. Department of Education, Niche users, and the schools directly.  Read more on how this ranking was calculated.
ELCA’s Professional Learning Day on August 20 was a very productive day as teachers had an opportunity to analyze the spring ACT Aspire Summative reports to identify specific strengths and weaknesses in regards to student performance in grades 3 – 10. This data is used to guide and inform instruction, and to develop SMART goals for each grade level/department with instructional strategies targeted for the specific goals. An overall analysis at the school level showed our students scoring at or above the national average in most all subtests in each grade level. Of particular notice is in the area of English where our students exceeded the ACT Readiness Benchmark and were above the National Readiness Benchmark at all grade levels. Know that we are very proud of our students and teachers as these results are evident of their commitment to grow and pursue academic excellence.
The 10-Day ALL IN ELCA Fund Campaign Kick-Off was a great success. We thank each family who has participated so far...but don't be confused...the ELCA Fund Campaign continues all year and there is still opportunity to be ALL IN with the faculty, staff and families who have already given.

Our family participation percentage is currently at 45%, which is tracking higher than this time last year. But we still need the help of our families to raise this percentage.

ELCA was granted over $550,000 from an outside foundation last year and one of the key components to being considered for grants such as this is our steady increase of family participation in the ELCA Fund.

Because simply participating holds such a high importance, it further proves that EVERY GIFT TRULY COUNTS.

AND...being ALL IN has its rewards!

Families who participate in the ALL IN Campaign are invited to the Donor Appreciation Tailgate Tradition catered by Jim 'N Nicks. It's an evening of great food and fellowship prior to the Homecoming Game on Friday, October 5.

Invitations to those who have donated to the ELCA Fund will be mailed on September 11. RSVPs must be received by Tuesday, September 25. Check out the information on our website regarding how many FREE tickets are given for each donation level.

Donations must be received by Monday, September 24 to receive ticket(s) to the Donor Appreciation dinner.

Thanks for being ALL IN in the mission of ELCA!

New! Student Diversity Council
The Diversity Council held its first student meeting for high school students with a great turnout of 30 students. They had a friendly competition guessing country flags, signed up for Culture Talks to share about their family’s culture or interesting hobbies, and discussed ways to improve cultural diversity at ELCA. They meet once a month on Wednesday afternoons and it’s open to any high school student.

We are pleased to announce an amazing opportunity for your family. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy has become a Prime Member with Kingdom Education Ministries. This membership gives our staff access to a wide variety of resources that will help them develop a stronger biblical worldview. There are also resources on parenting, grandparenting and other topics designed to equip them to train our children and youth in the Lord.

Your family can have access to these same wonderful resources through a very special offer. This can be accomplished by your family becoming a KEM Prime Member. The individual yearly subscription rate is regularly $25. However, Kingdom Education Ministries is offering ELCA parents a special one-time rate of $15.

This offer is good for a limited time. You can become a KEM Prime Member by going to www.kingdomeducationministries.com . (Please refer to “Steps To Becoming a Prime Member” document.) Once there, click on the tab “Become a Prime Member” and choose “Individual Annual Membership”. When you complete the application page, enter ELCA218 on the line labeled “coupon”. This offer is good for the next 24 days and the coupon will become void on October 1, 2018 .

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. We must do everything possible to be better equipped to bring our children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Grandparents Are Our Sunshine!
ELCA students honored their grandparents on Friday, August 31 with the program "You Are My Sunshine," starring "Granny!" This year, the award for Most Grandchildren and Oldest Grandparent went to the same person...the great-grandmother of Gabriel and Sofia Saavedra! Ms. Ruby Buffington will turn 100 years old on October 27 and she has over 75 grandchildren and great-grandchildren! The award for the grandparents who have been married the longest went to the grandparents of Jonathan and Julia Rose Shoemaker, Ira and Julia Schipper. They have been married for over 63 years! What a testament!

ELCA junior, Brendan Hill had a very busy and exciting summer. Brendan graduated from the National Flight Academy during the month of July. He received a scholarship from Delta Airlines to attend this week-long STEM based program located on the Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Florida, home of the Blue Angels. Brendan was onboard the AMBITION, a state of the art virtual aircraft carrier. While onboard, Brendan experienced the life of an AXP “AMBITION Experimental Pilot.” During his deployment, Brendan studied aerodynamics, propulsion, navigation, meteorology, flight physiology, along with core values of teamwork and, leadership skills development. We are so proud of him!
Over the summer, ELCA 8 th  grader Max Guadagno won a Special Recognition Award in the annual Karina Eide Young Writers competition. His short story, “The Mystery of the 5 th  Boat,” showcased his skills in storytelling and creativity. The contest included the categories of poetry, fan-fiction and fiction. Congraulations, Max!

Eighth grader Caity Patterson was selected to the USA Softball All American team as a pitcher this summer. She represented the state of Georgia in Oklahoma City at the Hall of Fame Stadium where the NCAA championship takes place every year. Congratulations, Caity!

Students in Mr. Jagus’ 8 th  grade honors physical science class were highly engaged in the engineering design process with an experiment known as the toxic popcorn challenge. They had to collaborate using few materials and strict specifications to design a reliable method for moving a quantity of material from a “contaminated” container to a “safe” container without touching it. Some groups were more successful than others, but they were all definitely using higher-order thinking skills in the process!
Is it on your bucket list to be the Charger mascot? Well, you're in luck...
