Summer Book Study

When Life Gives You Pears
The Healing Power of Family, Faith, and Funny People

In 2017, Jeannie Gaffigan was diagnosed with a pear-sized tumor in her brain. In her book, she shares her deep personal journey from diagnosis to recovery. With sincerity and hilarity, Jeannie invites us into her heart (and brain) and shows us the importance of family, faith, and humor as keys to her recovery and leading a more fulfilling life.

Join us on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. when we will discuss how important it is to rely on our faith in times of uncertainty and how God gives us ways to cope with hardships. We will meet via Zoom on 8/14, 8/21, and 8/28. You will need to order your own copy of the book and read chapters 1-7 in preparation for the first meeting on 8/14.

To register for this book study or for more information, contact Teresa Lee ( tlee@stmarysrichmond.org)
Bishop Robert Barron’s
THE SACRAMENTS

The great Sacraments of the Church have endured for thousands of years. Everything in the Church’s life comes from and returns to them. But there is far more to these ancient rites than meets the eye. In this study, Bishop Barron looks at the great sacraments of the Church in all their theological depth, spiritual effects and pastoral promise. The Sacraments will help us understand these signs and channels of grace and discover the secret behind their persistence down the ages: the presence and power of the Savior himself.

You can choose meet via Zoom either on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. or Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. We will begin the 6-week study on August 18th/20th.

Please contact Teresa Lee ( tlee@stmarysrichmond.org) for information about how to order your study materials and to access the Zoom meetings.

GOOCHLAND “Y” SUMMER BOOK DRIVE

In collaboration with Goochland Public Schools, The Goochland Family YMCA is enhancing literacy skills through a summer book drive. Each week school librarians volunteer to drive the BOOKMOBILE throughout the county to ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive books. Children who visit the BOOKMOBILE select up to three books to keep for free, and the librarians even through in a free ICY POP!! Providing opportunities for children to self-select books fosters an enthusiasm to read. We are inviting all of you to participate in this book drive—helping to grow life-long readers !! Our hope is that this project will create an enjoyment and love for summer reading---and beyond!! The link below will let you access the list of books needed. We invite you to purchase a book –or books--- on line, and have them sent to: The Goochland Family YMCA, 1800 Dickson Rd., Goochland, Va. 23063. You may also deliver the books to the “Y” at the same address. OR, one of our parishioners, Sue Vaughan, is the librarian at Randolph Elementary School in Goochland and is working on this project. She contacted our Human Concerns office to say that she would be willing to pick books up at church and deliver them! SO—if this is easier for you, please purchase the book(s) and contact Rebecca in the parish office to make arrangements! Now, we have three ways to participate in this summer outreach!! Let’s celebrate summer reading!!!
