Youth Basketball Winter Season
Volunteer and staff coaches kept the young athletes engaged, focused, and loving the sport this winter season.

In partnership with ONEgeneration, Las Palmas Park continues to host the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP) for seniors. Folks that are 60+ can qualify for this free program (suggested donation is $3), Mondays through Fridays. LOS ANGELES REGIONAL FOOD BANK
The Regional Food Bank monthly distribution was held on April 7, 2025, at Las Palmas Park, from 9 am to 11 am. This program continues to serve seniors age 60+ on a monthly basis at Las Palmas Park. This drive-through food program provides a free food kit containing nutritious items such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, cereals and grains. The program serves an average of 150 seniors monthly. The next distribution will be held on May 5, 2025. Join this free interactive class designed for seniors to learn the basics of navigating a computer. Topics include safe browsing, protecting personal information and more. The Monthly Senior Dance was held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Las Palmas Park. Participants danced to lively music in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Doors opened at 7:00 pm. Ticket prices were $15 for members and $25 for non-members. The next Senior Dance will be on Saturday, April 26, 2025, and will focus on the theme of celebrating the spring season. An SFPD officer stopped a vehicle without license plates near Laurel Canyon Blvd and Hubbard St. A cut-off catalytic converter and LCD screen were found in the trunk. The driver was arrested for an expired license, stolen property, and a parole violation.

An SFPD officer stopped a car with a broken taillight near Foothill Blvd and Maclay Ave. The driver had a suspended license for DUI and an outstanding warrant. The person who came to retrieve the car also had a warrant. Both were arrested.

An SFPD officer stopped a driver near Hubbard Ave and Glenoaks Blvd and arrested them for DUI with a blood alcohol level of .08% or higher.

SFPD officers were notified by LAPD Foothill Division of a recovered vehicle stolen earlier in a burglary on the 1000 block of Fourth St. The suspect was in custody and later arrested for burglary, grand theft auto, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SFPD received a Flock alert for a stolen vehicle near Hubbard Ave and Fourth St. Officers found it near North Brand Blvd, detained the driver, and arrested him for joyriding, meth possession, and a felony warrant for grand theft auto.

An SFPD officer responded to a domestic dispute on the 2000 block of Second St. The victim said her ex-boyfriend kicked off her car’s side mirror. He was arrested for felony vandalism.

SFPD stopped a vehicle for expired registration near Truman St and Kittridge Ave. The driver was arrested on a warrant and cited for driving without a valid license.

An SFPD officer stopped a vehicle near South Brand Blvd and Mott St. The passenger had 43g of meth, two warrants, and violated a restraining order protecting the driver. He was arrested for drug sales, contempt of court, and the warrants.

SFPD officers responded to a theft on the 1000 block of First St. A woman who stole a generator was arrested for petty theft.

SFPD responded to a robbery at The Home Depot on the 12900 block of Foothill Blvd. A shoplifting suspect pushed an employee and fled, then barricaded himself in a vehicle. He was arrested for robbery and resisting arrest. Ten empty cans of keyboard cleaner were found in the car.
ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2025, APPROXIMATELY 8:30 AM
SFPD responded to a reckless driving report on the 600 block of S. Workman St. Shortly after, a hit-and-run involving a motorcycle was reported at Pico St and San Fernando Mission Blvd. The motorcyclist had minor injuries; the driver, who ran a red light, fled the scene. Investigation is ongoing.

An SFPD officer observed a vehicle driving recklessly near Fourth Street and North Brand Boulevard. The officer initiated a traffic stop at Fourth Street and Alexander Street and arrested the driver for reckless driving.

SFPD got a Flock alert for a vehicle tied to a fentanyl-related extradition warrant from Denver. Officers found it on the 1100 block of San Fernando Rd and arrested the driver.

COFFEE TIME WITH THE CHIEF
On Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10 am to 12 pm, Chief Valdez met with community members and Department of Mental Health employees at the San Fernando Child and Family Center (919 1st Street, San Fernando) for "Coffee Time with the Chief of Police." Chief Valdez provided updates on police department projects, including the integration of mental health clinicians into department operations through a grant from the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Acting Sergeant Jorge Cervantes and Chief Fabian Valdez attended the San Fernando Community Coalition to Prevent Gang Violence on Thursday, March 6, 2025. On March 13, 2025, the Coalition met at Recreation Park.

OUTREACH FOR INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
To request outreach, please submit a request through the MySanFernando App, send an email to homeless@sfcity.org or call the Outreach Line at (818) 898-1210. Please be sure to include pertinent information in the email, such as a description of the location, date last seen, description of the individual, as well as any specific concerns regarding the person’s well-being. Once reported, the street outreach team will be able to respond within 24 hours on weekdays, and 72 hours on weekends. Please call the Police Department at (818) 898-1267 if the individual is trespassing, harassing, or engaging in other illegal activity.

The Neighborhood Clean-Up! Program is still accepting applications! This program is aimed at improving the overall cleanliness and well-being of San Fernando’s neighborhoods and offers qualifying residents a free, one-time service to help improve the outer appearance of their homes and neighborhoods. Services include removal of dead or overgrown vegetation, tree trimming, and assistance with junk or debris removal.

| | Public Works has finished this year's grid pruning performed by West Coast Arborist, focusing on grid “E” and numerous palms on Brand Blvd. and throughout the City. Key areas of attention included trimming along the mall area, Auto dealership and its surroundings as well as resident requests and, where overgrown branches were obstructing traffic signs and pedestrian pathways. This effort enhances both the safety and beauty of San Fernando's urban environment. | | Sidewalk repairs were completed at several key locations. These repairs addressed uneven surfaces and cracks, improving accessibility and safety for pedestrians, particularly near schools and residential areas. The Public Works team remains committed to ensuring safe walkways for the community. | | Pacoima Wash Bikeway Project | As part of the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing the bikeway along Cesar Chavez Learning Academies, the San Fernando Swap Meet, and Cindy Montañez Natural Park, Public Works completed a second stretch of beautification of the bikeway along the Wash. This project included weeds, debris and graffiti removal. These efforts aim to encourage more cycling and promote a cleaner, greener city. | | |

On July 15, 2024, the City Council approved the Policy on the Discontinuation of Residential Water Services Non-Payment, associated payment plan processes and the timeline for the reinstatement of late fees and penalties with an effective date of January 2025. Discontinuing water service is a last resort to incentivize payment of past-due bills after all other attempts to collect payment, such as reminders, warnings, and alternative payment arrangements, have been exhausted. Staff is encouraging all customers to ensure bills are paid in a timely fashion to avoid penalty.

NEW WAYS TO PAY!
To avoid fees and penalties, all bills should be paid by the due date as listed on the water and sewer bill. The City offers a variety of payment options for water customers, including new online payments:
Online Payments: Online bill pay for Water/Sewer Bills services are now available. Residential and Commercial customers are now able to skip the line to kept up-to-date with their accounts. Check out the new City of San Fernando Online Bill Pay: Customer Portal to pay via credit card, debit card, checking account, or AutoPay.
By Mail: Payments can sent via mail to: City of San Fernando, 117 Macneil Street, San Fernando, CA 91340.
Night Dropbox: A drop box is available outside the City Hall’s main entrance. We request that all payments be placed in an envelope and that no cash is enclosed. Payments received in the drop-box will be processed by 9:00 am the next business day.
AutoPay: AutoPay is available to all City of San Fernando water customers. It is a direct debit program that works with your bank for a quick and simple way to pay your utility bill electronically. Click Here to download an AutoPay Application.
In Person: Customers are welcome to pay at the Finance Counter at City Hall (117 Macneil Street, San Fernando, CA 91340).

If you are behind on your account, a variety of assistance programs are available for qualified residents:
City Programs:

Payment Arrangement Plans are available for residential water accounts that are 90+ days past due. This will allow for repayment over a period of time to make payments more manageable. Arrangements must be made in person at San Fernando City Hall and only the account holder will be allowed to enter into the arrangement. Customers are encouraged to enroll in the Payment Arrangement Plan by December 15, 2024. Staff will be available on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 9 am to 12 pm, at City Hall for Payment Arrangement Plan Applications. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income households pay for heating or cooling in their homes. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 awarded California additional funding to help households struggling to make ends meet, and many Californians in need may qualify. LIHEAP can offer a one-time payment to help pay your heating or cooling bills, even if you use wood, propane, or oil. In addition to help with paying your energy bill, LIHEAP can also provide in-home weatherization services. To learn more about the LIHEAP program, visit the LIHEAP program overview.

SoCalGas recently announced $10 million in funding to support low-income families, seniors and small restaurant owners with bill assistance and to bolster community resources for those who may be struggling financially. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-2026 Budget process officially kicked-off on March 3, 2025, when staff filed the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for FY 2023-2024 and on an update to the FY 2024-2025 Budget. Below are key dates for those community members interested in providing input to the City's Budget process:
- Monday, May 5, 2025: FY 2025-2026 Proposed Budget Book Distributed to City Council and Posted to City’s website.
- Tuesday, May 13, 2025: FY 2025-2026 Proposed Budget Virtual Town Hall Meeting
- Monday, May 19, 2025: Special Budget Study Session (Budget Overview and Review of Department Budgets: City Manager’s Office, City Clerk, Administrative Services, and Community Development)
- Tuesday, May 27, 2025: Special Budget Study Session (Review of Department Budgets: Recreation and Community Service, Police, Public Works – Operations and Capital Improvement Plan)
