Hellooooo, everyone! Welcome to our MWR Spotlight, the new & (totally) AWESOME section of our Better at Bliss Bulletin!

You've used the facilities — now let’s meet the people behind them. Every week, we're pulling back the curtain and highlighting one of our MWR staff members: Who they are, where they work, their roles, and a fun fact that none of us knew!

MEET JOCELYN VALDEZ!

Where You’re From: I was born and raised in El Paso, TX!

Role: Sports Specialist

Facility/Program: Youth Sports & Fitness

Time at Fort Bliss MWR: Over three years!

A fun fact about me: I'm an expert at crocheting, and my dog is usually the "lucky" model who ends up wearing all my creations!

What people don't realize about my job: Most people don't realize how much knowledge goes into this role! As a Sports Specialist, I need to understand a variety of sports, whether I’m officiating, coaching, or helping with the fitness side of the program. Every day requires me to adapt and wear many different hats.

Favorite part of working here: The opportunity to make a positive impact in a child’s life! Watching kids build confidence, develop new skills, learn teamwork, and grow both on and off the field is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I can play a small part in their development makes this job meaningful every day.

Next time you're at our Youth Sports Plex, say hi to Jocelyn!

Jocelyn, thank you for making MWR better!

That's not all... it's time for a GIVEAWAY!

Get a chance to win four General Admission tickets to an El Paso Waterpark! If you're looking to cool down for the summer, you have four locations to choose from!

All you have to do is answer this week’s trivia question HERE.

Winners will be notified every Thursday and announced in the following week’s newsletter. One entry per person, per week.

Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
