Part 2

Sunday School

We look forward to celebrating with our fourth (and several fifth) graders this week as they take their First Communion. All Sunday school classes will hear a lesson related to communion.

  • The K/1 Classroom at North will hear the parable of the Good Shepherd. This lesson teaches us about how God uses God’s superpower of Caring to love each of us.
  • The Godly Play classroom at North will hear a story about World Communion. This story expands on the parable of the Good Shepherd to show how our shepherd uses the ritual of communion to show love and care for each of us.
  • Our 4th and 5th graders at 11 am will meet with a minister just before their First Communion to help them further understand its meaning.
  • Our group at South will hear the story of Jesus’ Last Passover. This story lies at the heart of our faith tradition and helps us understand the ritual of communion.

We ask parents and caregivers to update their child’s registration each year. Please take a minute to register your child for all K-12 programs.  Click here to register.

Soli Deo Gloria

The music will feature the versatility of First Community’s newly completed Klais organ. Associate Organist Sally Beske and Stephen Main will accompany the choirs and congregation. Plan to join us for this special service!

Our Klais Organ Recital and Dedication is scheduled for Friday, November 4 thru Sunday, November 6. He has been the senior organist for the Cologne Cathedral for over 21 years and has been called upon to perform special recitals and dedications worldwide. The formal dedication service will occur during a worship service on Nov 6. We are thrilled that this special component of our Sanctuary addition has finally come to fruition.

The Unfolding Now: Realizing Your True Nature through the Practice of Presence was originally presented as a series of teachings by A. H. Almaas (Hameed Ali), the founder of the Diamond Approach to inner realization.

Facilitator for this series is Rev. David Hett, Minister of Spiritual Life & Learning, and an ordained Teacher of the Diamond Approach. The sessions will include meditation time, a short teaching based on the chapter, the group practice of inquiry in groups of 2 or 3 normally, and a time for questions and comments at the end.

Participants will be expected to purchase the book. Regular attendance is urged but those who must miss a session (and those who are not able to meet in person during the first nine weeks), should stay current with the chapter readings and doing the inquiries as a journaling method or working with someone else.
