Lenten Sermon Series by Glen Miles
March 21, 2021
Week 5
Again & Again, We Are Changed
Focal Scriptures John 12:20-33 | Jeremiah 31:31-34

We desire for God to write on our hearts so that God’s law can re-shape and change us from the inside out. Change is a journey of letting the old fall away for something new to emerge, of returning to God’s words over and over, of being drawn into the heart of God. This is the process of justification and sanctification; transformation must be internal and communal.

Strategic Planning Update
By Pam Shisler, Planning Team Chair

The Strategic Planning Team is busy moving forward with our Appreciative Planning process to create mission imperatives for First Community’s immediate future. Program staff, clergy, Governing Board members and other church leaders attended our Kick-Off meetings March 6 & 7 led by Rev. Sarai Rice, a consultant from Des Moines, IA. You can view Rev. Rice’s presentation on national church trends here. Since then, the Planning Team has been busy finalizing our plans for connecting with First Community members and developing a timeline for the process going forward.

All church members will have the opportunity to participate in the Strategic Planning Process by joining a small group meeting or completing the all-church survey. Small group meetings will begin the last week in March. Look for future emails and visit the Strategic Planning page on the First Community web site for more information and updates.

Thanks to our Planning Team members: Catherine Adams, Paul Anderson, Terry Davis, Tanner Gaerke, Jamie Greene, Glen Miles, Jodi Patton, Cydney Philbin, and Carrie Schwab for their commitment to this important work. If you have comments or questions about the Strategic Planning process, please connect with us at StrategicPlanningCommittee@FCchurch.com.
Currently, we have very limited spots available for our in-person worship service beginning April 11. We have created a wait list which can be accessed here. If you wish to attend the in-person worship service but are unable to register, please add your name to the waitlist. We will notify you if space becomes available.

Our goal is to safely accommodate all those who wish to be in-person at First Community. We are looking at ways in which we can increase our offerings while maintaining a safe and healthy environment. We will be announcing more in-person opportunities very soon.
Signs of Spring
Early signs of spring by Lincoln Road Chapel
Submitted by Pam Jameson, Director of Facilities Ministry

There is a hard truth to be told: before spring becomes beautiful, it is plug ugly, nothing but mud and muck...But in that muddy mess, the conditions for rebirth are being created.

Sunday School
This week in Sunday school we will continue to learn about the central teachings of Jesus, the Beatitudes. What do you think about Jesus’ teaching that people who are kind, humble and gentle will inherit the earth? Please join us on Sunday to talk about this question.

Children in grades K- 5 can participate in our LIVE Zoom Sunday school at 10 am. Please join us. We love getting to spend time with the kids in our program. This unit contains wonderful response materials that are included in our Sunday morning email and can be printed at home for your whole family to enjoy.
