Project Welcome Mat
June & July Opportunities
Please join us as we put out the 2018 Welcome Mat for parents of incoming IUP students during Freshman Orientation.

During the months of June & July there will be 12 orientation sessions.
  • 2,400 Welcome Bags will be distributed to parents during their students Freshman Orientation.

  •  May 1 Deadline - If you would like to provide a promotional item for your business or organization, please bring it to the Indiana County Tourist Bureau by May 1 – no exceptions. So that we can prepare adequately, please email info@visitindianacountypa.org if you plan to participate

  • For those who participated in the coupon book, you are still welcome to provide a flyer, pen, or informational materials to be placed in the bags.

Please note that participation in Project Welcome Mat is free but limited to those who are a member of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana County Tourist Bureau, or Downtown Indiana.

Unlike last year, orientation sessions will take place entirely on campus (though parents will be given the option of a community tour). This is in response to feedback from parents who wanted more time devoted to topics such as financial aid. However, there are still opportunities for local businesses and organizations to actively welcome new students and their families to our community and acquaint them with all that we have to offer.
Project Welcome Mat is an initiative of the Indiana Area Collaborative Team (IACT) in partnership with IUP, Downtown Indiana, Indiana County Tourist Bureau and the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce.

We thank you for your support of this effort!

Don’t be Chicken!

Plan to attend the 40th annual Indiana’s Cookin’ show April 25 at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

The theme for this year’s shows — at 4 and 6:30 p.m. — is “Bird is the Word,” featuring a poultry theme with demonstrations on everything from locally sourced side dishes to main courses.

The show, an event that benefits the Indiana County Community Action Program food bank, is sponsored by The Indiana Gazette . This year, students from the Indiana County Technology Center culinary arts program, under the leadership of local chef and instructor Jonathan Nagy, will demonstrate a variety of recipes and cooking techniques to provide an entertaining evening.

Doors open at 3 p.m. for the first show and at 5:30 p.m. for the second one for a vendor fair, which showcases a variety of vendors and products.

Tickets are available for $8 each at The Indiana Gazette offices or at the Kovalchick Complex box office. Free parking is available.

The price includes reserved seating, entry for door and grand prizes, the vendor fair and free food samples. Everyone will also get to take home a cookbook and gift bag.
