Stay Healthy With What Goes On Your Body, Not Just In
By: Tracy Eldevick

What you put on your body is just as important as what you put in your body.  With your skin being your largest organ and also the largest line of defense from the environment, keeping it in good health is vital.  We are barraged daily with chemicals, free radicals, and organisms that can potentially damage our bodies both inside and out.  Some things are beyond our control, but other things we can.  Try to avoid harmful chemicals by choosing skin care that is produced for effectiveness and not just to be be preserved.  Choose companies that are mindful of the sources of their ingredients.  Nature has a lot of the answers for our issues and if we seek active ingredients based on botanicals and essential oils we can connect with that part of healing that is grounded, proven, and ancient.
Leaf People at ilumina
We are pleased to announce the addition of Leaf People to our Wellness Boutique.  Leaf People is a very thoughtful, comprehensive, and high quality skin care line from Colorado.  We are the first in Arizona to carry Leaf People and we are very excited to share what we have found.  They are committed to using raw, organic, and effective extraction processes to provide the desired results.  We love that they are mindful enough in maintaining the purity of their ingredients that they ban the use of cell phones and computers in thier lab.  Visit their website for the full story.

How to Help Keep You and Your Family Healthy

Fall is here. I realize it is still very warm, but kids are back in school all across the country and they are being very generous with their colds.  Even if you do not have school age children yourself, you are still being exposed to these viruses when you are travelling on a plane; working out at the club or shopping in a store.

Patients often ask what do we do for ourselves here in the clinic. We start early and take herbal formulas designed to strengthen our Protective Qi or immune system. Here at ilumina, we frequently treat patients with colds/flus, sinusitis and bronchitis during Fall and Winter months. The combination of herbal formulas and acupuncture boosts our immune systems and prevents us from catching all the viruses we see. At the first signs of a sore or scratchy throat with possibly shoulder /neck aches, we take Yin Qiao or Gan Mao Ling until we no longer have these symptoms. We will often continue to take the herbal formula for a number of days after the symptoms have cleared to build our Protective Qi.

Herbal vaginal steams, or "bajos", as they are known in Spanish, or chai-yok in Korean have been used for centuries to treat many conditions including painful or irregular periods, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts, infertility, vaginal dryness and hemorrhoids. The steams can be used in conjunction with the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy to achieve reproductive health. Done after menses, the steam can be used as a uterine lavage to help clear out any old tissue and nourish the womb on a physical and energetic level. The vaginal steams can also be used with ART to soften the tissues and increase uterine lining. They are also believed to help in healing with perineal tears, scarring from c-section, hysteroctomy or laparoscopies. At ilumina, we have a special blend of herbs that can be used for the steam. This ancient technique  is a simple, yet effective treatment that can be used along with the abdominal massage.
