In the last two weeks, everything has changed. I see it reflected on my calendar. Everything I’d planned for the next few months has been canceled, postponed, or moved online.
We will learn many things from the coronavirus pandemic. We can see from what happened in Italy and what may happen here the importance of planning and taking early action before the crisis hits. As Dwight Eisenhower said, “
Plans are nothing; planning is everything
.
” So I’m reassessing all my plans as we move forward and trying to determine what actions to take each day.
All of us have different experiences and needs as we move through this uncertain time. Some of us may need to step back for a time. Others will be looking for more we can do. We all need connection and community that works while we are social distancing.
On behalf of the ECA national leadership team, we send each of you, our precious members, wishes for safety, connection and good health during this challenging time. We're all still here for the climate and we're here for you as well. Let's use this time to build more connection, community and to plan for action once we can go out again.

Join the Community Conversation
Last week, ECA’s Community Conversations began. Ground rules for respecting each other, and a short, guided meditation set a positive, caring tone for the meeting. Breakout groups talked about what is sustaining and engaging us, from nature walks to keeping in touch with friends and relations, and feeling gratitude for life and the environment. One attendee told about a group that made and sold fish tacos and donated the proceeds to a homeless shelter. We reflected on how the pandemic has revised our behavior, ways to take action on behalf of those suffering loss or unemployment, and how to help our adult children and grandchildren while sheltering in place.
We hope you'll join us for informal small group conversations where we can share ideas and stories of ways to keep up our work as elder climate activists. We're here for you just like we're here for the grandchildren and all future generations.

ELDERS CLIMATE ACTION STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH GLOBAL YOUTH CLIMATE ACTIVISTS!
|
|
When Elders Climate Action was formed in 2014, the youth were in our hearts. For our children, our grandchildren and all future generations, we have worked to mobilize the wisdom, the voices, the votes and the collective power of our older generations to end the climate emergency that threatens life on our planet. ECA’s membership today stands at over 12,500, with twelve active regional chapters and more in formation. We work in partnerships with more than 75 other organizations to end the climate crisis.
ECA salutes the powerful rising of youth climate activists seizing this moment to lead the struggle for the just and sustainable way of life that they deserve. These committed young people have set aside many of the joys of youth to stop an unfolding catastrophe that they did not cause. Their sacrifice and their bold visions of our planet’s future inspire us to work harder at building an even stronger movement of elders.
Elders Climate Action and its members stand in solidarity with our youth climate activists.
We are proud to strike with them, to respond to their calls for action, and to sing their songs, as they work for their future, for our future, and for all future generations
WE CALL ON ALL OUR GENERATION TO RISE AND JOIN US IN SUPPORT OF THE GLOBAL YOUTH CLIMATE MOVEMENT.

Finding Community Through Music
We are moved by the creativity of community in these times of social isolation. From folks from the windows of their homes to the windows of an app on the internet music is finding ways to help bring us together. Your health and safety during the COVID -19 outbreak is most important to the ECA community. Please do what is needed to take care of yourself and your community during this time. We understand that some members may need to step back from climate action during this time, while others may have more attention to give. Please do what you can, as you can.
