City seeking volunteers for Council Committees

OSHAWA – Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution and become more involved in your community. The City of Oshawa is looking for volunteers who are interested donating their skills and time to deal with various issues associated with our City relating to local government through the lens of one of its Committees.

Committee openings that will need to be filled include:

Airport Community Liaison Committee
To undertake initiatives and provide input, ideas, feedback and discussion in all areas of community awareness and outreach relating to the Oshawa Executive Airport. Members will be appointed on the basis of experience, interest and availability to attend meetings. Community members will reside either adjacent to the airport or along any of its flight paths and will have no present or past affiliation with the airport as a user, employee or business relation. Term is December 2017 to November 2018 (1 airport user and 1 community member).

Heritage Oshawa
Monthly meetings and committee work related to heritage conservation of buildings. Terms are December 2017 to November 2020 (1 appointment) and December 2017 to November 2019 (3 appointments).

Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee
Advise and assist the City of Oshawa in developing and facilitating strategies and actions towards a barrier-free Oshawa. Members include persons with disabilities, parents representing children with disabilities and individuals interested in issues related to persons with disabilities. Term is December 2017 to November 2019 (7 appointments: 4 persons with a disability, 2 interested parties, 1 parent of a child with a disability). Term is December 2017 to November 2020 (1 parent of a child with a disability).

Oshawa Active Transportation Advisory Committee
To advise and assist City Council and City staff on matters relating to the design, development, implementation and monitoring of policies, programs and facilities to enhance and promote a safe, sustainable and accessible active transportation system within the City of Oshawa. Term is December 2017 to November 2020 (5 appointments). Term is December 2017 to June 2018 (1 student appointment).

Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee
Assist, advise and educate City Council, staff, and the community with respect to the protection, enhancement, restoration, management and appreciation of the natural and built environments. Regular monthly meetings are held with the exception of July and August. Term is December 2017 to November 2019 (5 appointments). Term is December 2017 to November 2020 (3 appointments).

2018 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships


Sport Durham and the City of Oshawa are proud to welcome the 2018 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships to Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa from February 23 to 25, 2018 !

Skaters from across Canada will compete for team national titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate and novice categories. The top two senior teams will represent Canada at the 2018 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships.

This is a great opportunity to see one of the sport's most exciting disciplines, which was last in Oshawa in 2009. The energy and enthusiasm of synchronized skating fans is truly contagious and you won’t want to miss it!
