OSHAWA – The City of Oshawa extends its deepest condolences to the family of Regional and City Councillor Nancy Diamond after her sudden passing last night.Councillor Diamond’s commitment to Oshawa spans more than three decades.
First elected to Oshawa Council in 1988, Councillor Nancy Diamond served on City Council between 1988 and 1991 and between 1991 to 2003 as Mayor of Oshawa. In 2010, Councillor Diamond was re-elected as a Regional and City Councillor. A longtime community volunteer, Nancy Diamond earned the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for her community work, and was recognized for her contributions by being named a Honourary Director of Friends of Second Marsh, Honourary Member of the Durham Region Children’s Aid Society and Honourary President of the IODE Golden Jubilee.
She was also a member of the Oshawa Optimist Club, Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres Board Member and actively delivered meals through her involvement in the Community Care Durham Meals on Wheels program.
“Nancy’s passion for Oshawa and its residents was evident in the many initiatives that she spearheaded to help grow and develop our great city. She will be greatly missed by her many friends on Oshawa City Council and Durham Regional Council as well as throughout the city. Our thoughts and prayers are with Councillor Diamond’s family during this difficult time,” said Oshawa Mayor John Henry.
