This series will keep you informed on the progress of projects funded by the Measure S School Bond.

To ensure transparency and accountability, we will share regular updates on how bond funds are being used, highlight key milestones, and preview what is ahead. Special editions may be added to celebrate major achievements.

Thank you for investing in our schools' future

Last November, voters approved Measure S, securing $278 million in locally controlled funding to repair, modernize, and improve our neighborhood schools, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and ready for future generations. Thanks to your support, RBUSD is moving forward with key upgrades. The upgrades include: replacing aging portable classrooms, modernizing permanent buildings, improving campus safety with updated fencing, gates, PA systems, cameras, upgrading technology, repairing roofs, enhancing playgrounds and more.

In this edition we are highlighting some of the roofing and fencing upgrades that are now underway, and previewing upcoming improvements.

Roof repairs now underway

Thanks to Measure S, significant roofing upgrades are in progress across RBUSD. This summer, aging roofs are being repaired or replaced at Alta Vista, Birney, Jefferson, Lincoln, Tulita, Adams, Parras, and Redondo Union High. Beryl Heights has already been completed.

The $9 million in improvements will provide safer roofing and more comfortable learning environments for students and staff.

Most work will be completed before the start of the 2025–26 school year.

Fencing Projects Begin

RBUSD is investing over $2 million in fencing upgrades at nearly every school as part of the first phase of Measure S. These improvements will enhance security, define campus boundaries, and create safer environments for students and staff.

Work began this summer and will wrap up by December 2025. Upgrades include taller fencing around kindergarten areas at Beryl, Madison, and Lincoln, new privacy screening, and replacement of old fencing with no-climb materials.



These enhancements support our ongoing effort to modernize and protect our school communities.

Safer, Smarter, More Fun Campuses Ahead

Exciting improvements are on the way for all elementary schools . As part of the next phase of Measure S, students and staff will vote this fall to help choose new playground equipment for their campuses.

The selected designs will be safe, inclusive, and fun, reflecting student input and campus needs. Installation is planned for the 2025–2026 school year, with work coordinated by district teams, architects, and vendors. Thanks to community support, these projects will continue transforming spaces for learning and play across the district.

Technology upgrades are also planned to enhance digital infrastructure and support modern learning. This summer, we’re upgrading the infrastructure at Lincoln and Parras (pilot schools) to support the deployment of new security cameras, enhanced safety phones, and digital clocks with built-in emergency communication. These schools will help us fine-tune the rollout, and then we will expand to RUHS and other school sites. Eventually, every campus will be on the same platform -- a direct investment in student safety.

Brightening our schools

To improve energy efficiency and align with California’s AB2208 legislation, RBUSD is beginning a yearlong transition from fluorescent to LED lighting.

Starting in June, interior spaces will be upgraded to direct-wired LEDs, while exterior fixtures will receive high-efficiency, long-lasting LED replacements.

In addition to better light quality and reduced maintenance, the project is expected to save $316,327 annually and may qualify for up to $170,000 in incentives from SoCalREN.
