Striping Schedule
Starting August 2, striping and street reconfiguration work, including new bike lanes throughout University City, will begin along the Morena Northern Tunnels and Pipeline project alignment. Crews will start at the south end near Appleton Street and Genesee Avenue and work north.
Work will take place Sunday through Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic control will remain in place throughout the work zone, and on-site crews will direct vehicles through intersections as needed.
Paving and striping will occur along most of the alignment with new bike lanes extending up to Executive Drive, consistent with the City’s Mobility Master Plan.
The University City neighborhood bike lanes are a separate effort directed by the Transportation Department in alignment with the University Community Plan (p. 117). These bikeways will help create a more complete and integrated transportation network throughout University City and include:
- Class II – Striped on-street bike lanes
- Class IV – Protected/separated bike lanes

What to Expect:
- Some on-street parking in University City will be reduced as improved bikeways are installed.
- Parking restrictions will be enforced. Please avoid posted no-parking areas; vehicles in violation will be towed.
- Access for emergency vehicles, residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.
- Traffic delays and construction noise are expected during work hours.
- For your safety, please follow all posted signs and detours.

Multiple Project Benefits
Together, these projects bring long-term benefits to University City. Upgraded underground infrastructure will support a more reliable local water supply for San Diego, while new bikeways will create safer, better-connected routes that improve mobility, enhance street safety, and support community plan goals for complete streets.
